Such a perfect evening with Carol and the Ashby Run bluegrass sound. They were so easy to book and work with, and when they play you can feel the depth of bluegrass in their souls. True masters. Ashby Run were the perfect band for our lake gathering of 60 old and dear friends gathering for the first time together in years. Many, many thanks 😊
They played for the cocktail hour and background during dinner after our wedding ceremony. We received several compliments for their playing and it fit our Virginia farm setting beautifully.
We absolutely couldn't have asked for better performers for the party. We so hope to have Ashby Run perform for another event for us in the future. Our guests told us over and over how much they enjoyed the music.
We had a 40-person family birthday party and Ashby Run provided the feel-good toe-tapping energy we were looking for at a reasonable price. They were on time, flexible, easy to work with, and did everything they said they would do.
To get a little more analytical (for anyone who wants another layer of info to consider), we had them perform without a sound system, as the event was indoors and we didn't want to overwhelm the space with sound. With that setup, the sound was still substantial, but it also allowed for conversation. Musically, they seem to be at their best when playing up-tempo instrumental numbers. They sing on key and with good harmony as well, but it doesn't seem like singing isn't as much of a focal point of what they do, and without amplification, it's simply harder for vocals to carry and penetrate through the instrumental sound. Overall, the group gave us just what we had hoped for and we would highly recommend using them.

Thank so much for taking the time to post a review. You nailed it with the details of what we try to provide. It means all that much more knowing you and your family have such a musical background.
It was an honor to play for your mother's birthday.

We had Ashby Run perform twice at our resort during the week of 4th of July and were so happy with them, that we've already booked them for another performance in 2017! Their performance was wonderful. The adults could relax and enjoy the music while the children had a blast dancing around. I would highly recommend them for any event!
I hired Ashby Run as a surprise activity for a joint bachelor/bachelorette party in WV. It was the absolute highlight of the weekend and I would highly recommend them! Lovely folks, great music, and everyone was dancing by the end.

Bill Johnson --
Bill has been performing and enjoying bluegrass music for nearly 30 years. He has played with several local bands and has extensive experience in entertaining the public. Bill sings lead and harmony on many of the bluegrass favorites and plays mandolin on instrumentals including "fiddle tunes" and numerous banjo selections. Some of the "crossover" tunes that Bill performs are: "Riding My Thumb To Mexico", "I've Got Stripes" and "Friday Night Blues" to mention a few. He has performed at many of the local wineries, community festivals, Bluemont Concert Series, Marriott Ranch and Arlie Conference Center events. Bill also donates a lot of his time entertaining residents of local nursing homes, assisted living centers, Ruritan Clubs and participating in annual Fire Department fund raisers.
Carol Manuel --
Carol started playing bass in 1998 and has not put it down since. The Bluegrass community showed her the heart and soul of the Bluegrass/Gospel bass. Carol has played Upright Bass for a variety of bands including the Gospel Keys, Narrow Passage and Doug Jimmerson (Tenor, Civil War Music). Carol derives great joy from playing the bass.
Wade Manuel --
Wade comes from a background of Country and Bluegrass music as his father (Bill) has been performed Country and Bluegrass music for over 50 years.
