What people are saying about Ashleigh Caudill:
"Ashleigh Caudill has an undeniable gift for songwriting with a keen aptitude for carving out a tune." -Claire Lynch
"I am thrilled to be one of the first to hear some of the potential of this talented songwriter - Ashleigh Caudill. I am also happy to have a part of seeing this latest CD come to fruition, and into your hands. Ashleigh is a rare find, a fine musician and vocalist with drive and energy to work hard at reaching the best she can be... and she wrote all of the songs on this recording. The songs are fresh and have a post modern bluegrass feel and sound while hints of old time and traditional music elements feather throughout the lyrics and melodies. I highly recommend your taking the time to give this CD some serious listening and consideration. It just may be the highlight of your week." -Jim Hurst
Many have written murder ballads in bluegrass of late, but most of them sound forced. “William White” doesn’t suffer that fate. Caudill cloaks her tale in archaic form and language structure, making it sound like she found a lost notebook from Cecil Sharp.” -Bluegrass Unlimited
"I was enamored with Ashleigh Caudill's performance at Pueblo Bluegrass on the River. Ashleigh is not just a bass player keeping the beat, she is leading her band in a fresh, new, captivating and genuinely entertaining stage show. I would recommend Ashleigh Caudill for your next event, venue or festival." - Dick Pierle, Old Blue Sound
"Our alumni are making their mark in bluegrass and related musics: Casey Driessen, Rushad Eggleston, Natalie Maines, Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, Andy Hall, Chris Pandolfi, Bryn Davies, Japanese banjo player Hiro Arita, and some newly minted alumni like Nate Leath, Ashleigh Caudill, Joe Walsh, and Charlie Worsham." -Berklee College of Music President Roger H. Brown's IBMA Keynote Address
"Ashleigh is a talented vocalist who has created an excellent collection by blending original material with established pieces. The prime focus of "I'm Not Fallin'" is on her vocal talents, and she certainly confirms that she is a voice to be reckoned with." -Bluegrass Unlimited
"Ashleigh reminds me of why I love music so much, not only is she a great musician, singer and songwriter, with very clever arrangements, but she sings and performs her tunes with a passion and joy that everyone strives to achieve. I love every tune on this record and I know that everyone else is going to fall in love with her and her original music... Great job Ashleigh." -Tim Carter: Musician/Recording Engineer
"The harmony was a truly sweet medley... Ashleigh’s voice made a beautiful, polite country drawl that would entrance any country or bluegrass fan." -Jeremy Maxwell, Fort Collins Local Music Examiner, (link hidden)
Celebrated folksinger, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Ashleigh Caudill, exemplifies one of the most exciting musical trends to be heard today. That is, traditional roots music with a new spin, a different take on the themes and sounds that have shaped American music past. She has a sense of style that is unique and beyond categorization. Her songs are constructed with an architect's touch and her performances hum with an excitement in the crisp arrangements that lift each song.
Growing up in a small town in Western Colorado Ashleigh began playing music at an early age. Upon receiving a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College Of Music she relocated to Boston, Massachusetts. While climbing the ranks of freelance bassists in Boston's booming acoustic music scene, she fell in love with both songwriting and frailing banjo. After leaving the city in 2007 Caudill bounced around a bit gathering experiences and stories that would work their way into her music.
She now resides in Nashville, Tennessee where she is an in demand hired hand playing with artists ranging from bluegrass icon, Charlie Sizemore, to Angaleena Presley of The Pistol Annies. In addition to her renown as a bassist she is gaining recognition for her songwriting prowess. Caudill placed in the finals of Merlfest's Chris Austin Songwriting Contest two years in a row and some top bands have already found her material. One of those tunes, Row By Row, was recorded on Balsam Range's IBMA album of the year, Papertown, and topped the Bluegrass Gospel Charts summer 2013 in addition to being nominated for IBMA's Gospel Recorded Event Of The Year.
Along with her writing and side work her own project continues to thrive. With a show alongside fellow bassist, Missy Raines, for the Bluegrass Underground in the Cumberland Caverns, a solo set on Music City Roots' Monteagle Show, and a packed album release party at the American Legion she certainly enjoys playing a wide variety of venues!
With sweet yet powerful vocals she draws the listener in to the tales she spins. Accompanied by the impeccable timing of her upright bass and a fine cast of musicians, or the rolling mellow tones of her open back banjo her sound will please the ears of music lovers everywhere. If you like your music sophisticated, fun and honest, you need look no further.
