The Balkan Laikas been featured at international music festivals, as well as on television and in films, and had a large history of performing for clubs, motion pictures, and radio shows. Balkan Laikas represent Balkan, Ukrainian, Gypsy, and Cossack folk music, crossover to bluegrass, and international acoustic styles.
We are happy to travel pretty much anywhere and will try to provide you with a unique musical experience. Feel free to ask us for particular musical requests you might have, we love challenges!
The folk-rock fused band Balkan Laikas (a.k.a. Flying Balalaika Brothers) formed almost twenty years ago and has been performing their over-the-top act for audiences across the country ever since. This band has entranced audiences with its unique blend of Gypsy folk, electric rock n' roll, and eye-catching, interactive performances featuring instruments like the behemoth contra-bass balalaika, a triangle-shaped stringed instrument.
The band was founded by guitar virtuoso Zhenya Rock, the former lead guitarist of the surf/rockabilly group Red Elvises. Band first began as a local LA band before establishing its roots in the city of Austin, Texas before moving back to California.
The band can perform acoustic or amplify. If you don't have the right equipment for your event chances are, we’ve got it! We will deliver equipment to your venue for an additional fee
