Band Meets World

Band Meets World hails from Nashville and brings audiences everywhere the sound of ‘90s rock. The band was formed by Ikaika Pekelo (drummer/producer) and Jason Humphrey (bassist/producer) and covers everyone’s favorites from Alice in Chains to Red Hot Chili Peppers and everything in between.

Pekelo began playing drums when he was around the age of 16. It all came to light when he saw the Dave Matthews Band on MTV and immediately knew that he wanted to be a musician. Among his earliest musical influences are Vinnie Colaiuta, John Bonham and Dennis Chambers. Michael Jackson had a big impact on him as a child, and of course as he got older he grew to love the alternative ‘90s sound. He earned a B.M. in Music Performance with an emphasis on percussion at Colorado State University. Fresh out of college he performed in several different music theater productions and played every style of music imaginable.

Humphrey’s love of music began when he discovered KISS at the young age of 5. He started out playing guitar, but once he picked up the bass, he never looked back. Some of his biggest musical influences include Jaco Pastorius, Van Halen, and Frank Zappa. He earned a degree at MI’s Bass Institute of Music in Los Angeles. Over the years he has played everything from rock to jazz fusion to blues. While not performing in Band Meets World, he also fronts his jazz fusion band Red Light Symphony.

Music has always been a large part of Pekelo and Humphrey’s life and is a passion of theirs that is reflected in Band Meets World. The talented duo has many years of experience between them Says Pekelo, “It’ll be fun, nostalgic, and it won’t be some watered down cheesy ass version of these awesome songs!”
