CONGANAS which means “with passion” features some of the most talented and experienced players in the Los Angeles music scene today, not only do they perform with their own band but are also touring musicians with some of the greatest bands and musicians in the Latin Jazz, R & B, Pop and Soul genres. Conganas was formed in 2010 and is led by percussionist Christian Moraga originally from Chile. What started as a concept and challenge of replicating the sound of a full Latin orchestra with only a quartet has led to many performance opportunities in diverse venues throughout Southern, California. The band has quickly created their unique Latin sound and spellbinding shows to other cultural frontiers.
Each of the band members executes a vital instrument and also sings, making this complicated task and particular sound, a sought out band. Christian has assembled a wonderful cast of musicians, writers, teachers and historians and together they have put their stamp on their debut recording “Conganas”.
About Conganas - Debut Album:
Recorded and released in 2013, the album “Conganas” features a fiery blend of ten tracks which are a combination of Latin Jazz, Salsa and Cha-Cha. Amongst these great tunes are eight cover songs originally recorded by Los Van Van, Clifford Brown, Frank Emilio, Jazz Messengers, Joe Cuba, Guaco and Wayne Shorter. The other two songs are original compositions by band members Enzo Villaparedes and Fermin Sifontes. Track number three “Dance On”, is a modern, fiery Salsa tune composed by Enzo and track number four, “Sound Step” a Latin Jazz tune composed by Fermin.
This debut album features remarkable guest musicians such as flutist, saxophonist and Latin Jazz group leader, Justo Almario on flute and soprano sax on track five “Azucar” also tenor sax and clarinet on track number ten “Footprints” a Wayne Shorter composition. Katisse Buckingham, saxophonist, flutist, and spoken word artist is featured on tenor sax on track number two “George’s Dilemna” and track number four “Sound Step”. Waldo Valenzuela, guitarist is also showcased on track number 2 “ George’s Dilemna” and track number seven “So Tired.”
About Conganas 2:
The second CD released in 2020 renews a new facet between auditory freshness and lost songs, songs like Vampira resound in timba like that of Muevete and its insane disarray through the classic boogaloo accompanied by Richie Gajate-Garcia and arrangements by Oscar Hernández with a song composed by Juan Formell played at one time by Ruben Blades.
Musicians: Christian Moraga - Percussion and voice; Rene Camacho - Bass and voice; Fermín Sifontes - piano; Enzo Villaparedes - trumpet, voice and percussion; Bob Mintzer, Conrad Herwig, Richie Gajate-Garcia, Yosmel Montejo, Marcos Campos, Oscar Hernández.
The CD Cover art was designed by Pedro Peirano, an award-winning Chilean director, screenwriter, journalist, cartoonist and television producer.
If you provide the sound system we can always give you our sound specs. We can provide the sound system for an extra fee, we don't provide lighting though.
If your party is going to be outdoors, we ask for canopies during the summer and heaters during the winter. We would also need power outlets available for the electronic instruments.
