Coobie Joe is a Baton Rouge based band that plays traditional Louisiana French Music. We play at Boutin's Cajun Restuarant every Thursday night. Feel free to stop by and check us out. We are available as a three piece band for small events and a five piece for larger events.
My extended family listened and danced to their music twice in the last week, and had a wonderful time. The band has a really good blend of Cajun music favorites, and more recent Zydeco. Darrell Brasseaux, drummer and vocalist, has been playing since he was 14 at Cajun Saturday night dance halls, and played with the old time greats Aldus Roger and Dewey Balfa, and knew the king of Zydeco, Clifton Chenier. The other band members are much younger, but are accomplished musicians (accordion, fiddle, keyboard) on their own. Brasseaux's voice conveys all the raw emotion of the best of vintage Cajun music, and the other singers bring in a smooth, more recent style. Since the band members cover a very wide range of experience, they can, and gladly do, take requests for songs that very few groups can play.
You can't go wrong with this band, whether for an anniversary party, wedding, or to hear them at a restaurant, dance hall or festival. Terrific!
