Cortez Montalbo, Trumpet Performance

My intense classical training and self discipline in the practice room enable me to perform a wide variety of musical styles, as well as cultivate a performance personality. I am an outgoing musician who loves to get the audience involved if that is what the situation calls for, but I also deeply appreciate nuanced musicianship of the highest order. What you can expect when working with me is a collaborative attitude with the skills to back up my musical ideas.

I love to play high notes, low notes, soft chamber music, and bombastic orchestral music. I am also trained in jazz and commercial styles such as Latin, rock, R&B, Broadway musicals, holy music, and others. When it comes to playing trumpet for an audience, you have to have a lot of confidence. While I am naturally outgoing, my confidence comes from my thousands of hours in the practice room, and hundreds of live performances ranging from solo classical recitals to broadway shows I played in Italy, to orchestral concert tours of Uruguay, Argentina, Hungary, Croatia, and Austria. I received my bachelor’s in trumpet performance at San Jose State University in 2018, and performed as a soloist at my commencement at Avaya stadium for an audience of over 5,000. I received my masters in trumpet performance from the Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis in 2020, where I performed as a soloist at commencement for over 6,000 people. Music performance is my passion and trumpet is my voice. I’d love to work with you on whatever music event you have in mind! For me, early is on time, on time is late. I feel it is essential for me to be flexible to meet the demands of the performance space as well as any variety of instrumentation.
