It was a pleasure working with DC Luau Entertainment. NuiNani Makaha, the artistic director and lead dancer, was extremely helpful -- from developing a suitable program and timeline to meet our needs and demonstrating a great deal of flexibility on the day of our event.
As this was an afternoon corporate event, we wanted to build in a team-building element in to the overall program. NuiNani and her colleague did a great job of involving our staff, while making the dance challenge fun and entertaining. Sheena was a sensation! My guests are still buzzing – she made my Luau a success. She was extremely pleasant and friendly as well as professioal. I hired the service for my granddaughter college (Stevenson's University) graduation luau. I particularly like the way she not only entertained my guests, but she invited my guest to come up and dance along with her as she demonstrated the steps to the dances. At the end of the performance, Sheena invited guests to have their picture taken with her - WOW!

The authentic Hawaiian live band and dancers were incredible, They were punctual, accommodating and very professional. The Luau atmosphere was enhanced by them being here. NuiNani Makaha is the leader and Artistic Director of DC Luau Entertainment troupe, established in Washington DC since 2003. Dc Luau Entertainment is the former BLE Polynesian Division that has performed and mesmerized audiences from back yard luaus, to corporate and government events, such as NASA, NAVAL REASEARCH LABORATORY, THE U.S. NAVY, THE WASHINGTON TIMES, NARA, ANDREWS AFB, UNITED STATES TREASURY, NATIONAL ZOO, ROTARY CLUB, WALTER REED ARMY MEDICAL CENTER. WE HAVE ALSO PERFORMED LUAUS FOR CELEBRITIES, LIKE JERRY STACKHOUSE AND CHRIS SAMUELS.
Nuinani received many awards for her participation in events such as The 2008 Asian Pacific Heritage Month Program for the Minor Safety and Health Administration, and the Pangaea Frederick-A Festival celebrating our Heritage among others.
Of Portuguese descent, NuiNani hasmany talents, including dance, music and fine arts. The Portuguese arrived in the Islands to labor in the plantations between 1878 and 1913, and are responsible for the MIGRATION OF 'UKULELE TO HAWAII’ the original name of this little guitar was “braga” or “cavaco”. Soon, it gained a great popularity throughout Polynesia, and especially in the Hawaiian Islands. Even though, the 'ukulele is a little different from its ancestor the cavaco, the Portuguese can still be credited with this incredible addition to the wonderful Hawaiian songs.
At First NuiNani learned Hula in the beautiful Island of Kauai and her goal is to graduate in Hawaiian culture at the Kauai Community College. NuiNani will also be back to Kauai to teach 2 workshops at The Koloa Dance community.
NuiNani welcomes all audiences, regardless of faith, ethnicity or culture. She feels very lucky to be able to work in an area that she really loves. Through the authentic Hula dance, she is able to express herself, entertain and bring the true aloha sprit to all your guests in a simple, alluring and captivating way. Her dance and chants will engage audiences of all ages with a lot of audience participation. NuinNani believes that hula is sacred, but you still can respect and share this spirituality while performing.
NuiNaini is proud of her vast collection of authentic Polynesian costumes, providing customers with a broad selection for their events.
In her spare time, NuiNani enjoys spending quality time with her 3 cats and playing the piano.
