DDAT brings an exciting, high energy, world class show fusing jazz, funk, hip hop and soul!
Genre-busting DDAT creates new music with Jazz, hip-hop, funk and soul, like the four sacred mountains of their Diné (Navajo) homeland. Delbert’s jazz horns call-out from one corner of the stage and Def-i’s rap responds back, bouncing off the funk of Nic on drums and soul of Mike on bass. Def-i’s lyrics hold the center as he explores the valley of topics from healing ceremonies, shout-outs to Navajo code-talkers, to the life on the road as a musician. The end result is a cross-cultural new music sound that is simultaneously fresh and enduring.
Response from Ddat:
Thank you Gabrielle! We had a blast at Flushing Town Hall! Much love to you, the staff and the community! Our welcome was amazing and we were very comfortable! Thanks again!
We are so pleased to have DDAT included on our roster of Native Launchpad artists in the Advancing Indigenous Performance initiative. The ensemble, led by the extraordinary Delbert Anderson, produces a hybrid mix of contemporary sound - think jazz stylings mashed with a Hip-Hop presentation that is at once innovative and engaging. The musicians' Indigenous Native American roots combine with their superb artistry to produce a simply awesome experience for audiences of all ages!
The Delbert Anderson Trio has performed at the annual Jim Pepper Native Arts Festival twice, and we look forward to seeing them back in Portland again as DDAT. They have developed their own sound, and their versatility enabled them to close out our 2015 festival improvising a set backing spoken word artist Avotcja Jiltinilro. The band has always been easy to work with, make for great interviews and have a generous spirit. Very highly recommended
Response from Ddat:
Thank you Sean!
Awesome musicianship. That's what was great about their performance. It wasn't just an emcee with backing band. All the players were equals, making the show much more interesting and engaging than many hip hop groups.
Delbert Anderson is not only an amazing musician, he is a total professional. He is very easy to work with, is very communicative, can adapt to different environments and needs and has 100% follow-through. He has played several art openings for our organizations and has always been a great fit. We've received many compliments from event attendees on his performances. We can't recommend him highly enough!
Response from Ddat:
Rose it's always a pleasure! Thank you!
Culturally enriching and technically superb, DDAT provided a memorable and wildly engaging performance. The interaction with the audience was something that you don't see in this day and age. The integration of rap and jazz was indescribable. We have had so many rave reviews from our attendees at the festival and we are using DDAT as a headline performer at this year's festival. If you want someone to wow the crowd and get your feet tapping and a smile on your face, this is the group for you.
Response from Ddat:
Doug,
Thank you so much for having DDAT. We enjoy Ridgecrest and it's Petroglyphs! See you soon!
We thoroughly enjoyed working with DDAT leading up to and during their performance at TEDxABQ 2017. Not only was the band excellent and very entertaining, but the band members were also patient and wonderful individuals. As part of the team, they shared the event on their platforms and were understanding when we needed to shift their rehearsal time last minute. I would highly recommend hiring them for future gigs :)
Response from Ddat:
Beth,

DDAT has been described using those words by national media for good reason. Blending Def-i's intelligent and poetic words and hip hop style with the hard driving funk and jazz jams of Delbert Anderson (Trumpet), Nicholas Lucero (Drums) and Mike McCluhan (Bass) - DDAT has carved their own path with their desert forged influences and world class musicianship.
