While a lot of DJs define themselves and their careers based on playing one style of music or another, I've always enjoyed the cross-genre approach. In a sense my style is genre less.
My sets incorporate a wide range of music styles, from 80's remixes, to chill-out tracks, deep house, trance, electronica and anything else that makes us move and feel good. It's my hope that throughout the night everyone gets to make a connection with the music and use the dance floor to express themselves. Discover Balearic!

To use a musical analogy I'd say that my style follows that of improvising Jazz musicians. They generally know how and where they will start and end their music sets but what goes in the middle is all in-the-moment improvisation based on their own feelings, emotions and crowd reaction.
Fortunately, this type of improvisational-anything-goes style of playing music does have a name: Balearic.
More than a particular type of sound, Balearic is a feeling. The feeling that the right song is the one that creates a direct and immediate connection with other ones around us, makes us move our feet and puts a smile in our souls.
I don’t play to educate my listeners or to please a particular crowd.

I love music. Music is my life. I'm a DJ because of music.
I fell in love with music at a very young age. When I was six years old, my next door neighbor started giving me tapes for my birthday. The first one was Queen's Greatest Hits vol. 1 (they are still my all-time favorite band!). From that point on, my love for music and taste for all types expanded rapidly. Talking Heads, The Police and Duran Duran were huge influences in my early development. By the time I was 10 years old, I was the 'shy' kid in the corner at all my school home-parties playing the music. This usually consisted of an amplifier, a tape deck and speakers. I'd play a song while cueing the next one up on a walkman (A-Ha, Direstraits and Talk Talk were always at hand). By the time I was 12, I was sneaking my dad's stereo out of the house to use as a second setup at parties (sorry dad) and mixing from one full amplifier setup to another one.
When a new club opened just two blocks away from my home, it became my home-away-from-home every Friday and Saturday night... I was hooked. Once the resident DJ figured that I was not going away, we quickly struck a friendship and he started teaching me the basics: how to mix, read the crowd, plan a set and introduced me to early Balearic sounds (Laid Back, Tullio De Piscopo, Pianonegro). Gracias Pancho!
While in high school, I started working at a trendy record store (Black Box) which gave me access to an unlimited amount of music from all different genres. This allowed me to keep broadening and refining my taste in music and gave me the opportunity to try many rare tracks on a variety of venues, from private parties, to pubs and several clubs.
In 1992 I moved to the United States and have been calling the Bay Area home ever since. While attending UC Berkeley, I connected with a well established DJ (RDLC) and together we played at lots of Berkeley and Stanford parties as well as numerous corporate events. I also had the fortune to connect with some of the top promoters in San Francisco and play at established clubs like 1015 Folsom, Essex Superclub and Harry Denton's. Then, family life took over and I took a break...

New years bring new resolutions and my #1 resolution for 2013 is to get back behind the mixer and turntables with a renewed love and passion for dance music!
Throughout my life and career as a DJ I've always maintained a very eclectic taste in music. Not only in my own listening habits but also in the type of sets that I like to play.

I have a small portable system (Native Instruments S4 & F1 running latest version of Traktor) ready to plug into an amp, main mixer or sound board via RCA or 1/4 inch cables.
I need two power outlets for the S4 and my laptop (an extra one is needed for my powered monitor)
If needed I can bring my own personal boot monitor or use one provided by the venue/client.
Total setup time: 3-5 minutes (without sound check)
As stated above, my music sets can encompass a wide variety of musical styles and each set is unique and intended to be flexible and accommodate the crowd's shifting energy through out the evening.
These are some of the styles that might be incorporated into my sets:
70's & 80's and remixes (pop, rock, disco, new wave, etc.)
Balearic Beat
Chillout
Indie Dance / Nu Disco
Latin Beat
House
Depp House
Electro House
Latin House
Progressive House
Trance
Techno
Note: I don't play hip-hop, rap, dubstep or radio based Top 40 hits!
RCA input
booth monitor
1/4 inputs
2 power outlets
Space to fit a Native Instruments S4
