Hello, I am Doctor Jimbo Walsh. I am a well known member of the New Orleans music scene. I am probably best known for my work on the HBO series the Treme, and my work as the musical director and bassist for Michael Ray and the Cosmic Crew. I have played Jazz Fest many times, and have toured internationally. As a teacher I have worked with numerous well known musicians, including JoJo Herman of Widespread Panic and Joshua Eustis of The Nine Inch Nails. I have composed for film and arranged music for various artists, including Maryanne Faithful and Michael Cerveris. I have been a professional musician for over 40 years, working in a wide array of genres: heavy metal, funk, jazz, fusion, progressive rock, contemporary classical, klezmer, bluegrass, western swing, New Orleans traditional and many others.
Classically trained from an early age, I continued my education to a doctorate in music from Columbia University. At the age of 14 I became apprenticed to the great Afro American composer and pianist Arthur Cunningham. As an adult I have been nominated for many awards, including 4 nominations in the downbeat readers poll for best electric bass. I am a virtuoso pianist as well as a guitarist and can be heard on piano every Wednesday at The Blue Nile with the New Orleans Rhythm Devils. I can also be heard at local festivals and at The Spotted Cat playing piano for Twisted Dixie. Sunday mornings I get up early and provide music for worship at St. Anna's Episcopal church in the Treme.
I appeared in the HBO television series "The Treme" and was the conductor of "The Naked Orchestra" a contemporary jazz orchestra founded by Jonathan Freilich. I play guitar with "The Other Planets" and bass with Davis Rogan and the Sazeracs as well as Washboard Rodeo with Washboard Chaz. My work on recordings can be heard with Michael Ray and the Cosmic Crew, Shannon Mcnally, Michael Ceveris and Marianne Faithful amongst others.
I provide background jazz piano for events of any sort. I can bring my own keyboard and sound system if need be. I am highly professional.
