Dr. Almitra L. Berry is the CEO, founder, and principal consultant of ALBerry Consulting, Incorporated. She is a nationally recognized motivational speaker, author, and consultant on the topic of culturally and linguistically diverse learners in America’s K12 education system. Her works and research focus on equity and academic achievement for marginalized learners – particularly in majority-of-color, low-wealth, large, urban school districts.
Dr. Berry is host of the podcast, Educational Equity Emancipation which hit New & Noteworthy on iTunes within 6 weeks of its launch, and author of the book Effecting Change for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners as well as numerous other articles addressing educational needs, provision gaps, equity, and challenges related to the academic stagnation resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.
She is a graduate of the University of California, Davis holding a B.A. in political science/public administration. She holds a M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction, and an Ed.D. in educational leadership with a specialization in curriculum and instruction. She has held multiple credentials including a California reading endorsement, language development specialist (LDS), and bilingual/cross-cultural language acquisition and development (CLAD/BCLAD) for Spanish language instruction.
Dr. Berry has worked with educators, leaders, and school systems throughout the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. She has presented at scores of state, national, and international conferences on the topics of equity, leadership, curriculum reform, and meeting the needs of historically underserved and marginalized learners. Her work aims to introduce educators to a culturally relevant pragmatism that regard the culturally and linguistically diverse learner as one who brings to school a divergent order of reality. That reality influences the culture of school, the equity of policy, and the efficacy of instructional methods. She calls upon educators and educational leaders to evaluate policy, curriculum, instruction, discipline, supervision, and professional learning with a lens focused on equity.

Lighting:
For speaking engagements ranging from small classrooms to large concert halls, the lighting setup is a critical element. In smaller classroom settings, we require adjustable and comfortable lighting to ensure a focused atmosphere. In larger venues such as concert halls and auditoriums, professional stage lighting is essential to enhance Dr. Berry's presence on stage. We recommend having the capability to control spotlights to emphasize key points during the presentations. Regardless of the venue, it's imperative that Dr. Berry's face is well-lit to establish a strong connection with the audience.
Staging:
Versatility is key when it comes to staging arrangements. In smaller classrooms, a simple desk or table will suffice. Dr. Berry never uses a podium or lectern as she prefers a close interaction with the audience. However, for larger venues, we prefer a more expansive stage with a presentation area to provide Dr. Berry with mobility and increased visual impact.
Sound:
High-quality audio is of utmost importance, regardless of the venue's size. With audiences of less than 50, such as classroom settings, no microphone or sound system is needed. In larger spaces, we insist on professional-grade audio equipment, including lapel microphones and strategically placed speakers throughout the venue to ensure that Dr. Berry's message reaches every corner of the room. We also recommend having an experienced sound technician present to manage audio levels during the presentation, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for the audience.
To guarantee a successful speaking engagement, we conduct thorough sound and lighting checks prior to each event to identify and promptly address any potential issues. By attending to these details, we can ensure that Dr. Berry's message is delivered effectively and resonates with diverse audiences, regardless of the venue's size.
