I am a New York City based violinist with 18 years of extensive training in jazz, swing, bluegrass, and Texas style fiddling. As a Berklee alumni, I can also sightread well, learn parts by ear and improvise over changes. While I specialize in these genres I can also help you out if you need strings for a pop, world music or classical project! Anything goes.
I am currently available for session work and paid gigs either solo or with your ensemble. Additionally if you need a band for your event I am also available for hire with my own jazz ensemble and can provide a quote for anything up to a full quintet.
This was such a great experience! The music was beyond our expectations. To hear live music in my home in the setting that we had was phenomenal. All of our guests were delighted. Ellie’s choices and what she practiced were exactly what we asked for including much period music. We are already talking about doing this next year!
I've had the pleasure of working with Ellie several times. Outstanding musician with loads of style and creativity. An ability to follow easily and step into any gig or session with loads of confidence, knowledge, and experience. Highly qualified and motivated. In my experience, Ellie Goodman is the first call I ever make for a professional violinist and musician.
Response from Ellie Goodman:
Thank you Chris! It was a pleasure working and creating with you.

If you hire me as a solo act, or with an ensemble I will arrive 30 minutes prior to the performance (earlier if there is a soundcheck) and bring my own amplification if needed. I'm punctual and very reliable in terms of communication. Should there be a particular piece you would like performed for your event, I may bring sheet music and my own portable music stand, but I typically perform memorized compositions with and without improvisation.
If you are hiring me with a band that I have not worked with before, chord charts and lead sheets are very appreciated but not a requirement. I'm able to hear well and learn quickly, particularly with jazz standards, and accents for popular music. Improvisation is a daily part of my work and I'm used to working on the fly!
In terms of visuals, I tend to dress fairly formally in either a dress or pants suit and always make an effort to be occasion appropriate depending on the context of the event. If you hire me with a band, they will do the same.
If the gig is longer than an hour, for ever 60 minutes there will be a 10-15 minute break. If possible, food and drink in any amount is also always appreciated.
Ellie Goodman is an award-winning New York City based violinist from Santa Monica, CA, with 16 years of experience in jazz, hot swing, bluegrass, and an accomplished foundation in Texas contest style fiddling. An alumni of Berklee College of music, Goodman works with a variety of different jazz and folk ensembles at numerous performance venues throughout NYC and the east coast, in addition to working as a multi-genre session violinist and part time private instructor.
Notable performances have included BB Kings as part of the prestigious Blue Note Jazz Fest, Sleep No More, The French Consulate of New York, a residency at the New York Public Library's annual celebration, and more.
Most recently, Ellie Goodman was featured in the Summer of 2016 as a member of the house band on the first season of NBC's newest show, "Maya and Marty" produced by Lorne Michaels. At the moment, Goodman continues to perform with Bedlam Swing, The Two Cent Band, Hot Club of Bushwick and upcoming experimental gypsy-punk group Speakeasy Streets.
I will bring my own amplification, but if you do have a PA available with a mixing board then I will bring a pre-amp and go directly in if possible. Other than that, I'm flexible in terms of performance spaces and can make anything work as long as there is physical space!

My repertoire is quite large (easily into the 1000's), so I've summarized some tunes that are popular among clients across the board. These are strictly instrumental, but I can hire a singer if you request an ensemble to accompany me. If you have other tune requests, please inquire and I may know them. If not I can learn them should it be required for the event. (This list does not include modern covers and is mostly public domain)-
