I am a violinist with extensive classical training and performance experience. I take pride in always providing my clients with high-quality music and well organized communication. I have played many weddings and other special events, and always do my best to help the day run as smoothly as possible to create lasting memories. Although my training is mostly classical, I also have a background in American and Celtic fiddle music and enjoy arranging string covers of pop songs.
I am available to hire by myself or with others to form a duo, trio, or quartet. I regularly play in concert with the Cygnus Trio, a violin/flute/guitar ensemble, and would be delighted to play for your event with them.
Erica played the prelude, postlude, and accompanied the hymns at my wedding in October 2022. She was fantastic and helpful - she wanted to make sure that the music accurately reflected what we wanted and actually helped us pick it as I don't know much about music! This was one less stressful thing to deal with so if you're looking for a) a great violinist and b) someone to NOT add wedding stress, I would definitely go with Erica!
Erica assembled a wonderful trio that played at my parents celebration of life and really helped set the perfect mood. After minimal consultation, her musical selections were spot on and exactly what my parents would have loved. It was the missing touch that we were looking for to make the occasion truly memorable.
Me and my wife invited Erica to play at our wedding at a church. She invited a cellist and performed as a duo for some extra fee. Erica is very helpful with the song selection. On top of that, I had some songs that I like and mentioned to her; She agreed right away and performed them at our wedding. It was beautiful! Highly recommend!
Erica was an amazing violinist she was adaptive to the venue she was discreet during the celebration but filled the hearts of all whit great music.
Erica unfortunately couldn't make my wedding but she found a new violinist and cellist for me. Her service is amazing. Kendra and Bailey that did play at my wedding and played great classical and Hit 40's which all my guests enjoyed!
We couldn’t have had a better experience. Erica and her fellow musicians performed flawlessly during our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. Their experience as musicians and s a quartet was obvious, as they required little direction about how and when to transition from song-to-song during our ceremony.
Erica was wonderful to deal with in the weeks and months preceding the event.
She has a very large repertoire of songs/music, and was also happy to look for and acquire specific music we requested or write arrangements herself as needed.
We had some very specific song choices for particular parts of our ceremony which she was happy to acquire and play. Otherwise we had no idea what music to fill the rest of the time with, and Erica was very comfortable choosing appropriate music based on the overall “feel” we were going for.
We couldn’t be happier with our experience. Thanks Erica!
Erica played so beautifully at our small wedding ceremony in Montreal. She offered great song suggestions and even played a song that I selected for the prosessional. All in all she made the ceremony more emotional and enhanced the overall atmosphere immensely! She’s amazing!!
Erica was professional, courteous and very flexible. She made my proposal that much better and truly brought my dreams to life. Her playing was exceptional and she quickly put together a custom arrangement for me.
Response from Erica Jacobs-Perkins:
Thanks, Nic! It was a pleasure for me too!
She learned our theme song beautifully and is just a Lovely person. She added a special touch to our event. It just would not have been such a success without her music. We were thrilled and would recommend her highly!
Erica was one of the first decisions I made about my wedding, and now I can say for sure she is the best decision I made. I'm a violinist myself, so I really, really care about music, and I especially care about violinists, so I did a lot of looking around when searching for the violinist who would play for my wedding ceremony. I spent hours listening to a zillion recordings. I was a bit obsessed, actually..:) But none of the recordings really spoke to me. Then I found Erica's recording of "Until Next Time." I heard it, and then I knew Erica was the musician I had been searching for. I was so, so excited when I learned she was available on my wedding day.
To me, the music during a wedding ceremony establishes the whole tone and feeling of a wedding. It's really, really important. I asked Erica to play the solo I had heard online-- Until Next Time-- and I also asked if her quartet would be willing to play the first movement of Ravel's string quartet-- a very challenging piece, and my all-time favorite piece of chamber music. She and her quartet took it all on... and I do believe I had the most beautiful wedding ceremony possible :), and of course, Erica and her quartet played a huge role in all of this.
I never would've guessed that a wedding ceremony could be even more magical than the dreamy version that sits, waiting, for so many years, in one's heart... But my wedding ceremony was in fact more magical than my in-heart version, and I will always be so, so grateful to Erica for that.
It's also important to note that Erica is not only a wonderful musician. She's a smart, organized, reliable person who is lovely to work with....
And in terms of her performance, she is not just talented and very accomplished... her presence, her poise-- she is just so beautiful to watch.
So, this is meant to be my version of the best review a violinist could get.
Thank you, Erica.
My husband and I decided to have our wedding ceremony at the Lincoln Park Conservatory. We thought a nice touch would be to have a violinist for our ceremony. I found Erica online, accepted her proposal and paid her deposit. She contacted me right away to gather details for our event.
A few weeks out from our wedding, we had an idea to personalize our ceremony by playing a song for each of our parents that would be meaningful. This was outside our original agreement. Erica was very flexible, she gave me the options, pricing for the songs to be composed and suggested a cellist to compliment the violin.
On the day of our wedding, Erica and the cellist arrived promptly and played beautifully. I received many compliments from guests on the music. Our parents were surprised and delighted by the songs Erica played especially for them. We couldn't have had a better experience. I would absolutely hire Erica again.
This was her first proposal gig, she confessed to me, but she did absolutely brilliantly. My (now) fiancee was so surprised, and instantly recognized the Disney selections that Erica learned specifically for this. She was timely, professional, and the music was beautiful -- so happy that she was a part of this moment.
Erica did a fabulous job as a strolling violinist at a special event we held at The Palmer House Hotel in Chicago, December 2015. It was the perfect entertainment for a quiet dinner before our main show. She is courteous, professional, and very talented!
Erica and crew were thoroughly professional, showed up on time and played beautiful music that truly enhanced our event. Would recommend in a heartbeat, except for outdoor venues, which they were not comfortable playing in (reasonably so, probably). As a side note: a little français would have been nice.

Erica Jacobs-Perkins, a Montreal-based violinist, challenges diverse audiences to form enduring relationships with classical music. As a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Cygnus Trio, and the former TARDIS quartet, she has interacted with audiences in high schools, cafes, community centers, hospitals, metro stations, and shelters. She has also had the privilege of performing in more conventional venues, such as the Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago Symphony Center, Kodak Hall in Rochester, NY, El Teatro Nacional de El Salvador, and in Smetana Hall as part of the Prague Proms Festival. Diversity of performance location is a cornerstone in her mission to deepen the socially transformative possibilities of classical music. Also integral to this mission is her enthusiasm for new music; she participated in the 2016 Ear Taxi Festival in Chicago with world premieres of Eliza Brown’s A Soundwalk with Resi and Drew Baker’s Nox. As a member of the Cygnus Trio, she was involved in commissioning Charles Zoll to write AMALGAM and premiered pieces by composers Patrick Walker and Karalyn Schubring in the 2017 fresh, inc. festival.
Erica’s passion for sharing music does not stop at performance. She has been teaching privately since 2006 and has also taught through the McGill Conservatory, the Montreal Academy of Music, the Kanack School (Rochester, NY), and Music for Kids (Chicago). She visited El Sistema El Salvador for two weeks in 2015 as a teaching fellow with the MusAid organization, a fascinating and mostly successful exercise in non-verbal communication since she speaks English and French, but not Spanish! Erica has training in the Suzuki method of violin teaching for Books 1-4 and uses aspects of this training in every violin lesson she teaches, although she understands the importance of tailoring lessons and methods to the needs of individual students.
Erica began her violin studies at the Hochstein School of Music (Rochester, NY) with Julie Stout and continued with Virginia Wensel, Denise Lupien, Felicia Moye, and Janet Sung. Erica holds a (link hidden)s. and a B.A. in English literature from McGill University and an M. Mus. from DePaul University.
I am willing to play at outdoor events; however, string instruments are fragile and cannot be exposed to extreme conditions. This means I will NOT play outdoors in the case of: rain or other precipitation, direct sunlight, extreme wind, or temperatures below 65 degrees fahrenheit. A shelter is required in the case of direct sunlight.
After the first hour of continuous playing, I will take one 15-minute break per hour. If the gig is 90 minutes long, I will take one 10-minute break in the middle.
