Sean Bowman started the Gravity Trio as a way to bring improvised music to audiences in a way that they may have not experienced before. Building off his jazz, rock, and traditional music background his intention was to create music in a way that was accessible to all.
He studied under Joe Chambers at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and has continued his pursuit under Mark Guilana. He’s performed on stage with Chris Potter, Jonathan Kriesburg and played with Zach Nytomnt.
Holding it down with ferocious passion on the keys is Rony Thomas. Musician, composer, and band leader; he started playing in his church were his pursuit led him to explore R&B and jazz. His rhythmic phrasing and melodic ideas sing like a choir as he orchestrates his solos. Rony cites his influences as Oscar Peterson, Kenny Baron, and Keith Jarret.
Jake Abolos has been playing music since age 9 after discovering his grandmothers piano. He graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s of Music, Jazz Studies. He has had the pleasure to study with great bassists such as Carroll Dashiell (Ray Charles, Maceo Parker, Bobby Watson), Kris Funn (Kenny Garrett, Joey Alexander, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah), and Dr. Chris Buddo (New Mexico Symphony, NC symphony, NC opera). Through the opportunities given to him he has performed with great artists such as Delfayo Marsalis, Maurice Hines, Vanessa Rubin, Allyn Johnson, Sherrie Maricle, and many more. He sights Ray Brown, Jimmy Garrison and Keith Jarret as main inspirations in his playing and approach.
