Since I am a solo performer, there is only so much sound that I can make. But - I have a healthy reputation for making more sound for one guy, than most other performers that fall into my category. Reason being, I also play harmonica on a neck brace really well, and I have a Harmony pedal that provides two extra harmony vocals on top of what I normally sing, which makes songs like The Eagles, The Beatles, and so on, sound so much fuller and richer.
Also, I try to find out before I go in to play exactly what kind of audience I'm playing for. Are they young, or older? Is it a wedding reception or a tropical themed event? Do people expect to dance, or is it a laid back business lucheon affair? I have played for every type of event there is, and I pride myself on being able to cater to the needs of my crowd, as good, or better than most other performers.
HB has been playing audiences for all but seven of his natural years on this planet. He's the only male student in his high school in Marion, VA to have majored in Chorus, instead of the usual English, History, or Math majors. He knew from the age of seven that he wanted to sing for a living after hearing "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" by Jerry Lee Lewis, on his brother's car radio in 1957.
Ever since then, he's entertained his way into the hearts and minds of literally thousands of people in every imaginable kind of venue over the last few decades. About 25,000 of those people came on one night in Camden, NJ when he opened for the Pop/Rock Hall of Famers, CHICAGO. There are many Grammy Award-winning artists that he's opened for, or performed with onstage in Nashville during the nineties, but those are just name-check people who don't really explain how truly dedicated, deversified, and talented HB really is. If called upon to do so, he can do a three hours show of nothing but his originals that he's written over the years. Or, if you're havng a Carribean themed luau, or back yard party, he can play nothing but Jimmy Buffett for the entire show, if that's what you wish of him.
Other artists that have influenced him over the years are: Elvis Presley, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, John Prine, Jim Croce, John Denver, Jerry Jeff Walker, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Southside Johnny, Jerry Lee Lewis, Hank Williams, Sr., Robert Earl Keen, Steve Goodman, Billy Joel, The Eagles, Paul McCartney, Merle Haggard, and many, many others too numerous to mention here.
I will need a space to set up in that is approximately 8 feet deep, and 15 feet wide. Anything over that is gravy. I have set up in smaller spaces, but that is the measurements that make me most comfortable as a performer.
If there is a swimming pool, or any considerable body of water nearby, I request to have my space to play in be at least 12 feet back from the edge of said water. This is in order to keep my electrical equipment from sustaining damage, and/or shock.
I have lighting that I can provide, but I need to know in advance if it is needed for the performance.
Nearly everything that I listen to influences me to some degree, as I am like a human sponge, soaking up everything that I come to like as a singer, or writer. Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley were my first two powerful influences, and still are to some degree today. Next were The Beatles, Poco, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Jim Croce, John Denver, and Jimmy Buffett, who has almost cost me my identnity as a performer and writer. I do him so well that people only want to hear his songs once they find out I can sing and play just like him.
After Jimmy, my tastes atarted going toward the Texas songwriters, like Guy Clark, Robert Earl Keen, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Steve Earle. Then Steve Goodman, Kris Kristofferson, and John Prine influenced my writing a lot as well. After the New Melineum, my performing catalog expanded out to include a lot of Pop and Rock classics, like Billy Joel, John Mellancamp, Bob Segar, Marshall Tucker, the Allman Bros., Van Morrison, The Eagles, Steve Miller, Zak Brown Band, Elton John, and many, many more.
Performer will provide all PA equipment needed to do the show. Should the event be held outside for a large crowd of 100 or more people, any addtional PA equipment to overcome that sound deficit will be the responsibility of the customer.
