Bib overall wearing, cigar smoking, solo acoustic performer playing mostly original music intended for mature, adult audiences. My background is in Bluegrass/Country/American Roots Music. I sing songs, I tell stories, and I make people laugh. I also make them tap their feet. groove.
"There is nobody else out there doing what he does, He's one of a kind. He is large, he is occasionally foul-mouthed, and he is always funny. His show combines a deceptively simple homespun delivery, with humor hilarious and dark."

I had seen Jeff perform before, but forgot how ...well...excellent of a performance he puts on. Great original songs. Funny, catchy, a little emotional. By the end of the evening my tap room was singing along to classic lines, "Don't be a dick" and "Never trust a..."
Jeff will be coming back to Madison for more shows. Just cannot say enough for this great (big) entertainer.
This was my taproom's inaugural music event and Jeff BIGDUMBHICK Walls was a perfect fit. Ribald lyrics kept the crowd engaged in Jeff's unique delivery of his original work. Songs both heartfelt and hilarious had the taproom singing along to sounds they had never heard before.
We will certainly be having Jeff back again. Could not have asked for a more entertaining evening.
Response from Jeff Wall "Bigdumbhick":
I jplayed at Hell on Horse Creek Brewing in Madison NC. A small intimate space in a small intimate town.
I could not have been treated any better. The owner made sure I was taken well taken care of, the crowd was jovial, friendly, and generous, and the space was cozy, warm, and inviting. All of that lined up just right to enable me to play my ass off, and that's what I did.
Thank You David Peters for a wonderful evening.
Man, that was fun.

Hilariously Entertaining, Exceptionally Good Looking, Adequate Guitar Player
Jeff Wall is the Bigdumbhick, a solo acoustic singer/songwriter/storyteller from the Winston-Salem area of North Carolina. At 6’7” and somewhere around 350lbs, it is easy to understand the “Big” part. The “Dumb” part is easy too. Just look at him. He looks dumb. Big and Dumb, like Lennie Small with a guitar in his hands , but he knows who Lennie Small is and you’re probably going to have to look that up, so maybe he’s not as dumb as he looks…like anybody could be THAT dumb.
Originally from Middle Tennessee, he spent 20 years in the Navy sitting on his ass, chipping paint, perfecting the ability to sleep absolutely anywhere, and occasionally being allowed to blow something up. He’s read a bunch of books, he’s traveled the world... several times, and he has met, broken bread, and played music with, people from just about every imaginable point of the political, religious, and social spectrum. He’s not nearly as “Dumb” or as “Hick” as he might try to have you believe.
He taught himself how to play guitar while in the Navy and it was a rare occurrence that you ran across him when he didn’t have an instrument somewhere close at hand. Upon arriving in a new port search out local street musicians to sit in with. He settled in North Carolina where he would continue to play music at every opportunity, At the age of 55 he started writing his own songs, what with there being such an acute demand and shortage of old, fat, hillbillies singing heartfelt original songs about how they can’t get laid anymore.
… Ok, so maybe he’s earned that “Dumb” part honestly.
Somehow or another, for reasons none can fathom, it has all worked out. He is a very unique, gifted, and darkly hilarious performer. He doesn’t really look or sound like anybody else. He uses irony and self-deprecating humor as a candy coating to help make that dark and bitter pill of the human existence just a bit easier to swallow. One moment he might have an audience crying with laughter, and then completely out of the blue he might hit them with something extremely raw and personal, and you might again see eyes welling with tears - this time for a completely different reason. He's funny, but he’s not just a novelty act, he’s a seriously talented musician, with a groove so strong you could break a hip to it.
This is not a stage persona. He’s real. What you see is what you get. There's no pretense, no posturing, no bullshit. Well, maybe a little bullshit, but still, he’s real. He is what he is and he ain’t ashamed of it.

As a true believer in great music, I have seen him render an entire novel with only a worn-out guitar and a shaky voice. He's the real deal. Joseph North - Durham NC

I loved his stuff. I laughed my butt off and occasionally was mortified ...he crosses lines and doesn’t care one bit. That’s why he’s so friggin’ authentic. Peter Farrell - Songwriter/Performer- Philadelphia PA

If you get a chance to see Jeff, don’t miss it. Early songs brought nervous laughter, but by the end of the show there were belly laughs and a sing along. His lyrics are clever and his stories are unique... and true. Authenticity is hard to find these days, but I found it yesterday and it was wearing bib overalls. Terri Latham - Atlanta GA
