Jim Tait - Square Dance Caller

Jim arrives promptly for set up and starts at the contracted time. He is suitably attired in western wear and cowboy hat. He is articulate and personable in his presentation.

Jim Tait has been calling square dances for 60 years. He started calling while still in high school. Now Jim likes showing people a good time and enjoys calling for groups of all kinds. Jim's clear, concise way of instruction makes it easy to follow the basic calls and gets even the rank beginner dancing in no time. Square dancing is a great ice breaker and a way for any group to mix and get to know each other. For Jim it's all about the fun and getting a group of people mixing and socializing on the dance floor. Family nights, daddy/daughter nights, church groups, couple clubs, wedding receptions and even senior citizen groups can have a great time dancing. Jim uses a variety of circle mixers, square dances, contra dances and the Virginia Reel. For family nights, Jim can include such dances as the Hokey Pokey, Chicken Dance or Macarena. As Jim says "if you can walk, you can dance. It's all about the fun." Call it a barn dance, hoedown, country dance, square dance or whatever; it is always a fun time for everyone.
Jim comes complete with his own specialized sound system for clear, crisp sound. A lot of the music is on 45 rpm vinyl records. Some music is on CD's. An optional live band may be available. updated 9/30/22

Jim needs at least a 6 foot table near an electrical outlet to set up his equipment. A large, clear, open space with a flat, smooth dancing surface is ideal. A wooden floor is best. Jim prefers to be on floor level with the dancers, not on a stage. A generally, well lit area is best.
