J2B (Joe Jazz Band) was just what we wanted for our 320 person event! Some nice jazz for everyone to focus on and enjoy...or to have something nice in the background while in conversation. We will definitely be having them back!
Joe Whitney and his group (Dan Arnold and the Swinging Standards) played at our wedding on August 1 2015, and the quality of the music was absolutely fantastic. They set a great atmosphere and their jazz was just what we needed for a big crowd with mixed ages and tastes: up-beat and fun, beautiful sound, and neutral enough to be played during the meal without disrupting conversation. Their guitarist also played for our ceremony and helped us choose processionals and recessionals, which was great. The band was very flexible and responsive, offering to set up 3 times in 3 different locations, and offered very reasonable prices for a tremendous outcome. They brought all their equipment with them and everyone loved them. Highly recommend!

A graduate of the Howard University music program, Joe Whitney played first tenor in the Howard University Jazz Ensemble. He was featured on numerous albums and toured Japan with the university big band. In the fall of 2011, he had the opportunity to perform in China and tour Shanghai and Beijing with the George Mason University Jazz Ensemble. As a graduate student at Mason, Joe played both lead alto and first tenor in the jazz ensemble.
Joe has shared the stage with Donald Byrd, Billy Harper, Eddie Henderson, Jimmy Heath, Yusuf Lateef, and Phil Woods among others. He has performed at numerous clubs and venues in the greater Washington D.C. metropolitan area and was a featured soloist at the Strathmore Mansion, the Sylvan Ampitheatre, and the International Saxophone Symposium.
