Justin has been a bassist of various ensembles since 2007, playing contemporary, gospel, classical, rock, jazz, world music, and metal.
Born and raised in Lynchburg, VA, he started playing piano around age 7, picked up trumpet at age 10, guitar at age 14, then bass guitar at age 16.
He played the bass drum and bass guitar in high school marching band, including a Sarah Palin campaign rally in 2008. Even though his college major was information systems, his passion for music grew, playing the bass guitar in college marching band every year. He also played the upright bass in college symphony, touring from 2010 through 2014 all over North America, finishing at his graduation ceremony.
Justin continues to be an active performer of the central Virginia area.
As a musician, my technical requirements are minimal:
Sound: While I typically prefer a standard bass amplifier or PA system with clear and balanced sound reproduction, I can also work with a guitar amplifier if necessary. I own a 15-watt guitar amp from Urban Guitar Collection that can be used for smaller venues or practice spaces. I have a 15-foot 1/4" cable for connecting my bass to the amplifier.
Lighting: Basic stage lighting to illuminate the performance area is adequate. No specific lighting requirements, but I always say, "the more, the merrier" and exercise your creative lighting muscles.
Staging: A small performance space is sufficient. I can adapt to various stage sizes and configurations.
I am flexible and easy to work with, and I can adjust to different technical setups.
The innovative approach to bass playing by Leland Sklar, the rhythmic complexity of Victor Wooten, the harmonic depth of Steve Bailey, and the melodic sensibility of John Myung have significantly shaped my musical development.
