"Richmond's Favorite Bellydancer" Khalima is a nationally traveling bellydancer, entertainer, performance artist, instructor, emcee, and singer. She brings you two sides of the coin: very classic Egyptian Orientale and American Cabaret style bellydance for all ages, and wildly fused bellydance and performance art, often with lots of accordion and song!
Khalima is the owner and director of Electric Nomad Dance (formerly Illumination Dance), Richmond's own bellydance studio, and has graced stages and taught at festivals and events across the country, along with producing dozens of events in Richmond. She is a featured performer at numerous regional events, restaurants, and private parties!

Khalima is a Richmond, Virginia based career bellydancer, mama, performance artist, instructor, emcee, producer, writer, musician, singer, and artistic madwoman. She brings together her background in art, music, body modification and adornment, and a lifelong passion for writing, metaphor, and things that shine into emotional, musical, and narrative renderings of Orientale bellydance and theatrical performance. The quintessential performer, Khalima is able to seamlessly join her dance to any genre of music, and is a sought after performer for live music experiences and stage performances where anything from the cutting edge to the esoteric, modern, ancient, or traditional can flourish. Khalima has been lovingly described as “poetry in motion” and as “being the music”.
The Instructor: With a penchant for thinking outside of the box and an insatiable drive to create and inspire, Khalima opened lllumination Dance Studio, Richmond’s only studio dedicated to bellydance in all its forms and incarnations in September of 2010. She teaches an organically delicious blend of Orientale and Tribal Fusion bellydance, and pulls from her training in both forms, training in prenatal yoga instruction, study with Suhaila Salimpour, Sahra Saeeda, and many others in her classes. She offers all levels of classes including the raucous Punk Rock Shimmy Shakedown, and teaches with her accordionist sidekick, Barry Bless.
The Producer: Khalima hosts internationally touring artists, and produces numerous events around Richmond including Raqs Luminaire, a gorgeous spectacle of bellydance, live music, theater, and literal and metaphorical illumination at the historic Byrd Theater. She also collaborates with communities and artists across many genres and styles.
