"Mary is a reflection of the Ladies of Jazz who set the bar with distinction. Each song mirrors her love of musical standards that swings and rejoices in the blues. Songs that are standards like "Don't Go to Strangers," "Mood Indigo" and "Black Coffee/Heartbreak Hotel" have become Mary's "tour de force" drenched in a healthy appreciation of the blues. She approaches her songs with a fresh understanding of the lyrics. I quote "...Hell, I didn't just sing "Heartbreak Hotel," I was a resident!" Mary Bogue is a compilation of yesterday's divas swinging today in real time. She is the real deal." ~ Bubba Jackson, Program Host, FM88.1
Expect to hear the best of the American Song Book - everything from the hits made famous by Rosemary Clooney, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Ella and Sarah too. Accompanied by her King Size Papas, these musicians are the best in Los Angeles. Mary always shows up on time for a mic check, well dressed and with event-appropriate material perfectly arranged by the great Steve Rawlins. Just need a piano and a vocalist to knock your socks off, you got it. Want to add some rich, lush bass notes and a soft jazz drummer? Of course she can add that to your musical menu.
Mary's garnered stellar reviews from performances at The Metropolitan Room in New York City to the Gardenia in Hollywood. Check her out at Cabaret Scenes Magazine, Coffee Talk Jazz Magazine or In-Tune International, and then just pick up the phone and book her.
On her own sentimental journey to becoming what Elliot Zwiebach of Cabaret Scenes magazine described as “A kind of throw-back to the red-hot mamas…electrifying, sassy and sexy,” this native New Yorker seems to have done it all, working with Academy Award winners on the big screen and television, commercials and voice-overs, she is an accomplished oil painter, writer and singer, and no matter the media, brings you a new heart-felt story each time.
When Bogue made her New York City debut mid-2013 to critical acclaim, Linda Amiel Burns of The Singing Experience said in (link hidden), “She gave an extraordinarily good performance as her strong bluesy voice rang out at The Metropolitan Room. Mary Bogue is the real thing and we are looking forward to having her back in NY.” Ron Forman for Cabaret Scenes said, “In the tradition of Mae West and Sophie Tucker, but uniquely Mary Bogue, the West Coast big-voiced belter burst onto the stage of the Metropolitan Room with her show Boudoirs, Bordellos and the Blues. Bogue is a performer whose stage presence makes it virtually impossible to take your eyes off her.”
Zwieback also proclaimed, “Mary Bogue is the real deal. With a full, flawless voice than can melt an audience’s heart, raise its spirits or tickle its funny bone. She sings with truth and sincerity and honesty and passion.”
.
Procurement of lighting, staging and sound or piano rental, unless negotiated in advance, is not part of the agreement. Bogue brings musical stands, keyboard if necessary and personal mics. Up for rental for the event is a superior BOSE system to broadcast the sound in an intimate setting.
With literally hundreds of arrangements, Bogue brings you stunning sounds: "Both Sides Now," "In A Sentimental Mood," "Because Of You", "Night Life," "Save Your Love For Me," "Unchain My Heart," "Love For Sale," "Don't Go To Strangers," "Blue Champagne," "I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water," "Rock Me Baby," "Fever," "Light My Fire," "Nice Girls Don't Stay For Breakfast" ~ and too many more to list. Just ask.
Think Count Basie playing Mood Indigo, Rosemary Clooney singing "Hey There," or with the great Karen Hernandez swinging on the 88's. Bogue has been influenced by a profound knowledge of and friendship with the legends in both the jazz and blues world. Walk-Of-Fame and Tony Award winner Linda Hopkins has not only influenced Mary, but cries with joy when Mary sings her famous "I'm Going To Cry You Right Out Of My Mind," penned by Hopkins herself. Blues diva extraordinaire Barbara Morrison made Bogue one of her "Jazz Divas" and asked her to sing for her on her birthday.
And then there's Bonnie Raitt, Etta, Sarah, Nina, Joni Mitchell and Nancy Wilson.
Electrical outlets are necessary for amplification and lighting, and your lovely contract so that we both are very happy people.
