Nothing breathes life into an event like live music. Matthew Sowersby has more than five years of professional experience providing music at weddings, bridal showers, fundraisers, holiday parties, art galleries, and other important events. To create the right atmosphere, Matthew prepares appropriate music to meet the individual needs of each client.
We first heard Matthew at a wedding two years ago and my daughter and son-in- law to be decided then that they wanted to hire him for their wedding. He was available and plans were being made. Then Covid hit and all plans were scrapped. As parents, we wanted to see our kids marry on their day, so an immediate family-only backyard wedding became the new event. Matthew was still available and agreed to play. He arrived on time and started to play immediately. As I was part of the wedding party, I did not have the opportunity to enjoy listening to him very much, but I heard from many who were able to be there and thoroughly enjoyed listening to his selections. We are so happy he was able to be part of this special day.
I was thoroughly impressed by Matthew’s playing! His performance was beautiful and very expressive. He has an awesome repertoire, and was ready to play just about anything for us! He is fast with his responses and easy to work with. Book him now!!
I was so fortunate to find Matt to play at our wedding ceremony through a random online search. He was professional, versatile and a joy to work with. We chose traditional, classical selections from his repertoire for the prelude, processional and recessional. His style of playing is lovely and exactly what we were looking for. Then, he happily learned two new, more contemporary songs for the actual ceremony - one in which he accompanied our officiant/vocalist and one in which he sang and played. Perfect! My only regret is that we didn't have him play for the reception as well.
We hired Matt to play for our wedding celebration in Ogunquit, Maine. From the first email communication until the last song played, Matt was everything we could have hoped for in a musician! He was truly excellent to work with, even inviting us to join him on the gazebo at his home the first time we heard him play in person. He was patient, offered great suggestions, and really worked hard with us to come up with the perfect music for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner. Everyone who attended our wedding was so impressed and wanted to know how we were lucky enough to find him! Thank you, Matt, for helping make our celebration everything we hoped it would be. I highly recommend Matt to anyone planning a wedding or other celebration where only the BEST will do!
I'm thrilled that I was lucky enough to find Matt for my back yard wedding. Because my husband is Hawaiian I wanted a ukulele player for our wedding/reception music. Matt was easy to work with, professional, flexible, and dependable. He helped me select song choices that would work well on the ukulele and also played two other types of guitars to fit the songs selected. His presence and music created the perfect ambiance, and was exactly what we were hoping for. I would be happy to hire him again, and would highly recommend him to anyone searching for a talented musician/ukulele player/guitarist/vocalist! Thank you, Matt!
We hired Matt to play as a solo acoustic guitarist at our wedding in May, 2016. From the first time we spoke, I knew I had found the right person. He was so pleasant and professional at every interaction and truly excellent to work with. As our plans progressed, Matt very graciously accepted more and more responsibility for the music at our wedding which eventually led to his performing live, supplying all of the music for the event, and providing full DJ/Announcement Services as well. He made so many wonderful suggestions and accomodations, and he even graciously agreed to learn several new pieces of music that we had requested for the play list. He is an incredibly accomplished musician. Matthew is talented, professional and simply The BEST! I will forever be grateful. Thank you Matt. Danielle James
As a professional flutist, it meant a lot to me that my wedding music be unique and performed beautifully, and Matt completely surpassed my expectations. Matt was responsive, helpful and easy to work with throughout the process. I was married in a Catholic Church with picky music director, but Matt was incredibly flexible with our music selections, even learning/arranging 3 pieces I requested that he hadn't played before. He sent me previews of how the music would sound, and accommodated my requests for faster/slower tempos. Matt's playing for my wedding ceremony was beautiful, and I would highly recommend him!
I knew from our first phone conversation that Matt would be professional, accommodating and reliable. We hired him to play instrumental classical guitar as guests entered and left the funeral for my beloved grandfather, as well as to sing 3 requested songs during the service. His music added another layer of meaning and atmosphere that helped make the tribute sweet, poignant and personalized. It was a good memory during a difficult time that we will always remember. A very talented musician and performer who made my grandfather's service extra special.
I hired Matthew Sowerby to play for a dinner as part of an international meeting we held at Worcester State University.
Matt was on time, prepared and well organized. He was sensitive to when to play and when to stop for announcements, etc.
Matt was polite and friendly. He is an excellent musician with a large repetorie of muscial selections.
I recommend him highly.

Matthew was better than I was expecting! His music was excellent and everyone commented on how they enjoyed it! He responded quickly to my emails, arrived on time, and is a pleasure to work with. I look forward to using him again and can't wait to hear more of his beautiful music.
Very talented. Great musician. Easy to work with. Knew his audience and played music the group enjoyed. Found Matthew on the Internet-no prior contact. Hiring him was a 100% positive experience. Highly recommend Matthew.
Matt is a wonderful and talented musician - we were so lucky to have him perform at our intimate wedding reception. He set the perfect tone for our candlelit cocktail hour and dinner.
Matt was also Fantastic to work with. We chatted several times before the wedding and he was very good at dispelling any worries that we might have had. In addition he was sweet enough to learn our obscure wedding song - which he played wonderfully!
We couldn't have been happier - Don't hesitate he truly is fantastic!!!
A friend of mine attended a wedding last year where Matthew played and from her comments, I knew he would be perfect for my daughter's wedding ceremony and reception. He performed beautifully, was extremely accommodating to our requests for songs and brought the highest level of professionalism to the event.
Matt played at our corporate event and was nothing short of outstanding. He came prepared and was a great performer. We had nothing but compliments the entire evening.
Matthew is incredibly talented and super professional. We hired him to play at our wedding ceremony & cocktail hour and we could not have asked for a better fit for our big day! Matthew was super responsive via e-mail and phone leading up to the wedding. He brought a PA & wireless mic so that we could use it for the ceremony as well which was immensely helpful!
Our guests raved about him (and still are). The music was so beautiful and he has an excellent selection to choose from (classical, jazz, pop, he even plays the theme from the movie UP!)
He traveled quite the distance to get to our wedding venue and even took the chairlift to the summit where we had our ceremony!
Thank you Matt for being part of our day! We cannot thank you enough!
Matt was an intergral part of making our wedding day absolutely perfect. When I first reached out to Matt approximately a little over a year before our wedding date, I got such a prompt and professional response. Each communication from then on, whether it was e-mail or a phone call, was just as prompt and courteous. I was immediately impressed with the level of customer service I received and remained so throughout the duration of our contact. As part of the package we purchased, we got to choose two songs for him to learn. He learned them quickly and perfectly--now we can say we have unique, one-of-a-kind processional and recessional music that we've never heard at any other wedding, thanks to Matt. It goes without saying that being able to have such personalized memories means a great deal. Additionally, I got so many compliments on his high level of talent and widely varying song selection. We could not be more pleased with Matt's artistry, attention to detail, and professionalism. We would certainly hire him again (and again)!
Matthew was willing to travel, flexible enough to consider a new location due to thunderstorms, really wonderful to work with. We hired him to play at my mother's memorial service and he played and sang beautifully.
Matthew performed the music for our daughter's August 2015 wedding ceremony in Newport, RI. Impressed from the first communication with him, Matthew was consistently professional, prompt in responding to inquiries and not least, patient as he waited for our final music selection. His has a broad, and no doubt growing repertoire to choose from. His artistry was the perfect compliment to a wonderful ceremony.
We hired Matt to play the music at our wedding ceremony. He was absolutely wonderful! He was prompt, attentive and could not have been better. He listened to exactly what we wanted and he delivered. I cannot recommend Matt highly enough.
We hired Matt as our wedding ceremony guitarist. He was prompt and courteous in all of his email communications. He is a very talented classically trained guitarist, but also has a nice repertoire of songs from the Beatles to Train. He was able to learn my special request for a song very quickly and sent a sample of the song. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Matt!
I can't say enough great things about Matt. As the most important moment of my life to date, I was nervous about everything leading up my proposal. Matt put my mind completely at ease when it came to background music. Tremendously professional and flexible, Matt was very communicative in the weeks ahead of the big day and sent me several music clips to choose from. On the day of the proposal, he discretely texted me to let me know that he was in place and ready for our arrival. Perfectly timed and always in tune with the mood and importance of the event, Matt played movingly and was a big part of my fiancee's tears :) As if that weren't enough, Matt graciously set up a video camera to capture the moment. Overall phenomenal playing and so happy I worked with him!
Matt is a true musician and so pleasant to work with. We had Matt play for my daughters outside wedding. His skill and versatility not only added beauty but also the necessary reverence for he occasion. Thank you thank you Matt, you really made the event!
Matthew was a dream to work with. My fiance (now husband) and I knew we wanted something unique for our ceremony music. We considered a string quartet but realized that wasn't really us. Shortly after deciding we wanted a guitarist, we found Matthew. At that point, we were so busy with the other details of the wedding, and moving to a new home, we had very little left to finalize the ceremony music. Cue Matthew. He made the process in selecting the perfect music, including composing a guitar solo version of two very special songs, a breeze. Sadly, as the bride, I only heard two of the songs (processional and recessional) but our guests raved about this personal touch. Even our officiant was blown away by Matthew. She said he was the first musician to reach out to her before the ceremony (great touch!). We're so happy with our experience and would recommend Matthew to anyone looking for a thoughtful, genuine, and memorable accompaniment to their event.
Matt,
I wanted to thank you for a fabulous performance during our Holiday Open House at American Training Inc. back on Dec 17th. We have heard such great feedback from our guests about your performance. You were very professional, arrived early and are truly very talented. We hope to work with you again in the future!
Thanks again,

We had Matt play for us at a cocktail party in our home. Having him there was lovely. His playing was excellent and he was professional, engaged, friendly and polite. His music added an extra layer of atmosphere and elegance to our party. We'd recommend him!
Matt Sowersby played during our wedding reception while people were arriving and eating dinner. His repertoire had a nice variety and he provided lists of music in advance that I could use to recommend Bach as well as the Beatles. His playing was beautiful and it added just the right feel to the celebration of our wedding. Matt was very reliable and helpful with his set up. He was also very professional with a contract that helped to clarify the details of our beautiful day. Matt and his music became a wonderful part of our memory of July 27, 2014.
Matthew is not only an extremely talented guitarist but he is also very easy to work with. I hired Matthew to play the ceremony music at my wedding. The music was absolutely beautiful and I received compliments from family afterwards. He was also a pleasure to work with throughout the process, very professional, accessible and had wonderful suggestions based on my feedback on certain pieces. I recommend him to any bride!
My husband and I had Matthew play our ceremony music at our wedding and we are so glad we did! Music was very important to us and he helped us create the perfect ceremony. He was very easy to work with and made stunning arrangements of some our personal requests. Additionally he was very helpful in thinking through our music choices and had great advice. In the end we had a perfect ceremony with very meaningful, beautiful music! I would definitely recommend him for any event and would absolutely work with him again! You won't regret having Matthew play for you!
I hired Matt a few days before proposing. He was absolutely amazing.
In one day he learned a song that I requested which was not made for the guitar (made for the violin) and then sent me an audio clip to make sure I liked it. The song sounded amazing. My fiancee and I are still humming the song that he played and we keep listening to the clip he sent us.
He asked many questions before the event to make sure that the plan was complete. He arrived well in advance to make sure that he was there in time. He was very professional and handled the whole process very well.
Thank you Matt for making this proposal so special!
Matthew was prompt and professional arriving an hour early in a tuxedo. He provided exactly what we were looking for in our networking reception. His repetoire included the perfect background ambiance music for our black-tie event giving it a little extra elegance.
My wife and I hired Matt to play our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour last May, and his playing was honestly one of the highlights of the entire day.
With so much planning for the wedding day, Matt made life so easy on us, and even learned two song requests for the day, which were unforgettable. I still listen to the links he sent us to be reviewed prior to the wedding day.
I think what we liked best about working with Matt was how professional he was, and the fact that he helped guide us on some of the details we didn't think of.
I can't even count the number of compliments I received at the wedding for Matt's playing, and I highly recommend him to anybody, for any type of event.
We couldn't have been more pleased with Matthew's performance and his overall presentation. Our family and friends not only complimented his musical talent, but also his beautiful personality. He was a complete delight.
Matthew provided the perfect backround
for my 60th birthday party. Matthew elevated
the cocktail and appetizer hour as well as the dinner
portion of our event. He is a perfect
gentleman, prompt, corteous and easy to work with.

I was honored to have Matthew play classical guitar at our art opening reception.
The music blended really well with the crowd and the guests were totally impressed!!
I would recommend Matthew to someone who wants quality music with amazing sound.
We made a great decision when we hired Matthew recently for a fraternal reunion/dinner for the Order of DeMolay, Legion of Honor group. Matthew arrived ahead of schedule, was fully prepared, and provided exactly the type of background music we were looking for. He has a wide array/range of music genre choices, which worked well for our group - aged from late 20s to 80s. Not one complaint - hard to achieve with such a diverse range to please. He is very professional, but also very personable in his approach. He double checked w/us ahead of time and during the evening to be sure that his selections were to our (and our guests) liking and that the music could be heard without being too intrusive into dinner conversations. Although our event was over a month ago, we are still receiving compliments on Matthew's music and pleasant personality. His business card will definitely be in our "keep" file. You will not go wrong hiring Matthew.
Matthew played at a memorial service held at a university in honor of my brother. He did a superb job. He demonstrated a high level of professionalism and attention to detail. His playing was outstanding, and he was able to integrate classical and modern pieces to create the soothing environment that I had envisioned. He projects a sweet and gentle presence. Many of my brother's colleagues remarked on his talent. I would recommend him without reservation.
Matt was a pleasure to have at our event. Very professional and an excellent musician. We received lots of compliments on how wonderful he was. He is a great guitarist, I would highly recommend him and I hope that we can invite him to play at another one of our art openings! Thank you, Matt!
Matthew was terrific. He is not only professional but talented. His musical talent is not the norm. He is exceptional and he played a wide variety of music which our guests loved. If you are looking for a musician who stands head and shoulders above the rest there is no question that Matthew fits the bill. He will leave your guests, family and friends talking about how terrific the music was for a long time to come.
Matthew performed at a local wedding (in CT). He set up his gear, selected appropriate music and delighted the crowed. In fact, guests asked for his contact info -- even the venue staff requested to have Matthew's information. He's a pleasure to work with, great performer and and all around great guy. Five stars all the way....
Matthew performed at our cocktail party and he was great! He is an excellent musician and played a wide variety of music. He is very professional. Pam and I highly recommend Matthew!
