The McKinney Dance Band is a jazz orchestra, 18 piece "big band". We perform jazz big band standards from the dance era of big band music 30's-today. We are based in McKinney, Texas - a suburb of Dallas and are available to play for all types of events that have a large enough venue.

We perform concerts and dances. We have 2 public concerts twice annually at the historic McKinney Courthouse theater in downtown McKinney, TX. The concerts are typically the first Friday night in May and the Friday before Veteran's Day in November. We do different shows at each. Our May performance typically features legendary jazz icon(s) such as Duke Ellington or Count Basie and our November performance is a salute to our veteran's and we perform patriotic selections.
If you hire the Dance Band we handle all set-up and bring our own sound system. We will play a dance or a concert and will work with you in advance to make sure we are set to perform to fit your event. We have an extensive library of music and many singers that join us so our performances are always unique and special. We have vocal quartets and trios (like the Andrews Sisters) that may be added to performances as needed. We do require a 2 hour minimum on all hired performances.
The McKinney Dance Band under the direction of Chris Heider is a full jazz orchestra also known as a "big band". We feature a variety of singers but usually are limited to one male vocal soloist and 1 female vocal soloist. The band's missions is to play authentic arrangements of the best known big band songs from the 40' through today. We perform some of the same arrangements that have been recorded by Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Glenn Miller. So whether you want to get up and dance or just tap your toes and listen the McKinney Dance Band has something for all music lovers.
Band requires space of 24' x 20' at a minimum. We can handle modifications of this but will typically always require 480 contiguous square feet. Access to electrical power is necessary for sound system and amplified instruments. We need access to parking for Band's vehicles (approximately 20 automobiles) within a reasonably convenient distance to the performance area. We also have heavy equipment and will access for load in and out with either a ramp or elevator/lift if the venue is not on the ground level.
We require time to check our sound system before the performance time. If the Venue’s sound system is to be used a sound check conducted by Band of Venue's sound system is still required, at a time to be mutually arranged between Band and Operator but no less than 1 hour before Show is to begin. If no sound system is installed Band will provide one and require time additional to set-up system and conduct the sound check in Venue prior to performance in the same manner.
