STEPPIN OUT, A NIGHT AT THE COPA
Emerging into the Tampa bay entertainment scene is a long-time debonair vocalist bringing with him sensuous sounds of popular tunes. Mr. Charles of Riverview, Florida, performs musical selections leaving his audiences in an encore state of mind and all through emotional recall.
Mr. Charles, better known as Charles Rapelyea, performs musical selections from the sounds of yesterday and today. Some of his selections include tunes from Frank Sinatra, Harry Belafonte, Lou Rawl's, and The Isley Brothers. With his comprehensive choice of sound, Mr. Charles’ performance appeals to a variety of individuals. His latest show, "Live at the Copa,” is performed in cabaret style, and includes his rendition of Sam Cooke’s last performance in 1964 at New York City’s well-known Copa Copacobanna.
Every artist has his or her bright beginnings into the arts. Mr. Charles experienced his through operettas and plays. His love for performing aided in his gravitation toward the recording industry. Mr. Charles, a former member of Slick And The Family Brick ((phone number hidden)5), recorded two songs with the Sound of Philadelphia Orchestra (MFSB), "Makin Love To Me" and "What Can You Do When Love is Gone". The great arranger and composer Burt Keyes arranged both songs. As a result of the payola scandals, the group’s songs received minimal airplay and missed recognition on the charts; but, it did open the door for other recordings. Slick And The Family Brick moved onto the internationally renowned group, Shock. The group’s popular tunes “Footsteps Across My Mind” and Why Should I Forgive You”, arranged by Dennis Willams the arranger and musical director of the popular singing group The O'Jays, are still gracing the airwaves in countries like Europe, Hong Cong, Malaysia, and Japan.
Most recently, Mr. Charles has performed with local Tampa groups like Warren & Company at WSJT’s Battle of the Bands and WSJT’s Live Performance at the Aquarium at Channel Side in Tampa Florida. He also worked with musical director Andy Alexander and his Masters of Music.
