Nick offers a fresh approach to the songs he plays by improvising which brings a new, spontaneous and wonderfully personal dimension to the music. Nick plays a variety of music such as familiar jazz standards like "Misty", "Fly Me To The Moon"; show tunes like "Cabaret" and "The Impossible Dream"; hit songs from the movies like "Unchained Melody" from Ghost, "When I Fall in Love" from Sleepless in Seattle, and contemporary hit tunes like "Hello" by Lionel Richie, "Sweet Dreams" by Annie Lennox and "Crazy For You" by Adele.
I am a pianist, teacher and award winning composer. I graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the Catholic University of America and subsequently studied music composition privately with Fulbright scholar and Pulitzer Prize nominee Frank Retzel. Many of my compositions have been selected, through competition, for performance both here in the United States as well as in Europe. I have also served as President of the Minnesota River Valley Music Teachers Association and as state/national liaison for the Minneapolis Music Teachers Forum. I was also the founding conductor of the Audubon Symphony Orchestra and conducted that orchestra until moving from Pennsylvania in 1993. I have lectured in seminars for both students (how to compose music) and teachers (how to teach music composition).
I am currently performing and writing music in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area. I re-work and improvise many of the songs I perform adding my own personal touch. I always take great care to keep the original composer's intentions intact as I re-work the music. You will find my arrangements both fresh and thoughtful. My performances are passionate and careful consideration is given to each piece as it is performed.
