Grupo Orishabo is DC's newest AfroCuban-Yoruba drumming group, playing a unique blend of old and new school rhythms. Our music is blazing hot and will make you feel like your on the streets of Cuba.
We play at private parties, weddings, community and corporate events, colleges and universities, Salsa congresses and more! We offer flexible performance and pricing packages to meet the needs of your event. With enough notice, performance packages can include a corresponding Cuban dance show and lesson.

Under the directorship of master Afro-Cuban drummer Randell Villalonga, this 5 piece drumming ensemble creates our own, innovative "RumBata" style, mixing traditional Afro-Cuban rumba with Orisha 6/8 rhythms. Rooted in a the long-standing Afro-Cuban history, we maintain the authenticity of rumba, but adds our own new school style. We affectionately refer to this as "la rumba no es como ayer" (rumba isn't how it was yesterday), referring to the constant evolution of music and culture.
A native of Cuba, Randell has been playing percussion since he was 8 years old. He's played with world-renowned Afro-Cuban musical groups such as Yoruba Adabo, Los Papines, and Alaafia. In addition to directing Orishabo, he offers private and group percussion classes.
