Riptide Dance

Performers will provide a dance performance tailored to your venue and audience. Both music and length of performance are negotiable as is the overall concept of the performance. Our dancing can either be featured as a main event, or an be atmospheric element to your event. Number of performers is also negotiable. Rehearsal time in the venue is ideal but not necessary, although a walk through of the space by the choreographer prior to your event is ideal in order to get the most out of the performance. We provide costumes and makeup, but will need a sound system available for running our audio. If dancers are performing amongst a crowd we have a strict no touching policy that audiences must abide by. If the client desires special lighting they must provide it.

Riptide Dance was founded by choreographer and capoeirista Cherise Richards. From Ashland, OR, Cherise has a BFA in Dance from the University of California, Santa Barbara and an MFA in Choreography from California Institute of the Arts. She has studied Capoeira for 11 years. Her unique choreographic style comes from her love of the virtuosic movements of Capoeira blended with the technique and textures of contemporary dance.
She founded Riptide Dance in 2007 in San Francisco CA and the pickup company has since been performing in theaters, site-specific spaces and in dance films all along the West Coast. The company specializes in atmospheric and explosive contemporary dance shows, with a martial arts twist. The lithe and athletic dancers provide a breathtaking spectacle any audience can enjoy. The style appeals to art lovers yet still has commercial appeal making it highly accessible.
Performances are tailored to the venue to make the most out of each space and take full advantage of any aesthetic opportunities that may be presented.
