We booked Robbie to play for a work event /fancy dinner party we hosted at our home. We asked if he could bring a quartet, and he did. The music was the hit of the night! We appreciated Robbie's professional communications beforehand. All the musicians were punctual, friendly, and talented. Robbie led the quartet, and the music was beautiful. Many of the guests commented on how the music made the party so elegant. The neighbors were also very delighted with the music, and two even asked for the name of the musician. I can't recommend Robbie highly enough. We really loved him. He also accommodated guests by taking requests for songs -- they asked everything from classical to rock classics to current hits. He's a real gem! He's fun to chat with too!
I’m not sure if the songs we selected were too hard, but if so I wish the musician would have told us so we could change to something he was more familiar with. There were some parts where there was zero music (as I was walking down the aisle so awkward) and then he would start back. It didn’t flow at all, and overall we were very unhappy and embarrassed at how the music went. We wish we would have just played our own music on a stereo. We will not be recommending or using this service again.

Hi Rachael,
I'm sorry that you were disappointed in my services. Maybe I should have been more clear; when a client requests pop songs, I don't take it upon myself to judge the wisdom of their decision. Some tunes sound better than others on solo violin, not necessarily because of their difficulty, but just because they are designed for a band or singer. These were songs that I had to spend extra time transcribing myself, since some of them did not have music available for purchase (perhaps for that same reason). I would have also hoped that you appreciated the extra 30 minutes of music I played beyond what I was requested to do because the ceremony was running late. When it did begin, I didn't receive any of the cues I was told I would have from the wedding planner. I would like to stress this point: as a rule, it is the wedding planner's responsibility to coordinate the timing of various events in the ceremony. That expectation can't be levied against the musicians once they've begun performing.
I really felt awful when you started walking down the aisle before I had changed to your song, but you have to understand that my options in that situation are limited. Unfortunately, I do have to put my violin down to change the music. I hope the rest of your wedding day was a success!
Robbie made out ceremony magical. He was prompt and his music selections amazing. I had so many people come up to us during the wedding and say how much they enjoyed his music.

You can expect me to show up on time with a prepared set of tasteful repertoire that ranges from tender to flashy to romantic. I am happy to prepare additional pieces per your request, but please be mindful that it takes time to have music ready at a performance caliber and my rates reflect that.
Robbie Herbst is a classically trained violinist with degrees from Dartmouth College (BA Music and History) and CU Boulder (MM Violin Performance, AD Orchestra Studies). Starting at the age of 5, Robbie grew up studying the Suzuki method in Denver. In Chicago, he performs with a number of orchestras, including the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Though his bread and butter are weddings and cocktails parties, his penchant for street performing makes him a versatile and unflappable performer. He is particular fond of the music of Bach, Prokofiev, Vulfpeck, and the Beatles.
