Scaly Tailz offers low cost educational reptile demonstrations - we go to schools, school events, museums, public libraries, stores, organizations, birthday parties, scout meetings, fundraisers, and so forth. We are Scaly Tailz, where you get to meet "Nature: Up Close & Slithery".
Depending upon the type of demonstration, we bring anywhere from 4 to 10 animals. As we talk about each animal, an assistant walks around with the animal, allowing those who wish to pet it to do so. We also discuss proper reptile pet care, and wildlife conservation.
we loved the show thanks! arrived late but we adapted to it.
Response from Scaly Tailz:
Thank you for the review. Again, our apologies for being late.
Highly recommend this for a birthday, scout troop, school function, you name it. Very knowledgeable and wonderful with the kiddos! Had them out for my daughters 8th birthday party, and it was a big hit!
Thank you Scaly tailz!
Response from Scaly Tailz:
Thank you so very much for that awesome review, Ann! We are so glad your daughter enjoyed our reptile demo.

Scaly Tailz will bring several of our awesome & unique critters.
"Show & Tell" Demonstration: As our assistant(s) walk around with the critters, we will talk about them, about wildlife conservation, & about good reptile pet ownership, & answer any questions. Anyone who wishes to touch/pet a critter may do so. The number of critters we bring depends upon the amount of time (more time equals more critters).
"Living Display" Demonstration: We will have several of our critters on a table, in clear enclosures. We will also be holding some critters. We will talk about the critters, wildlife conservation, & good reptile pet ownership, & answer questions. The number of critters we bring depends upon space available, and amount of time. (More time and/or more space equals more critters).
Both demonstrations allow attendees/guests to take pics of and with the critters.
The animals we bring are ones that are used to being in a demonstration, and to being handled. We will sometimes bring non-handle able animals to our Living Displays, where they will remain in their clear enclosures.
We have a variety of critters, with new ones being added all the time.
Our fun and educational reptile demonstrations are always a VERY popular event, loved by kids of all ages.
Scaly Tailz was founded by Sheryl Mitchell in 1997. She was working at a local pet store, and needed to know how to care for the reptiles and amphibians. After researching them at the public library (no Google back then), she discovered that not only were these creatures fascinating, but they also were hypo-allergenic! Her son's teacher heard about the animals she had, and asked for a demonstration in the classroom. As word spread, Sheryl began doing more and more demonstrations, thus Scaly Tailz was born. Later, Sheryl was approached by someone needing to re-home a reptile, and Scaly Tailz began rescuing and rehoming reptiles and amphibians.
Scaly Tailz will bring several critters to your classroom or event. Sheryl will present the animals and talk about their species including origin and proper care. Her assistant will carry the animals around the room giving those gathered a chance to see them up close and pet them if they wish. Alternatively, Sheryl and her assistant will bring more caged critters and discuss them with people who are walking around the table. They will carry reptiles for people to interact with. This type of presentation works great for school carnivals and science nights.
Sheryl's passion for critters in general and reptiles specifically, comes through during her talks. She uses humor to connect with her audience. She tries to teach about the need for proper research before getting any animal, as well as the need to treat our natural world responsibly.
"Show & Tell" Demos - We will require a table (to place animal enclosures on), and two chairs.
"Living Display" Demos - We will require a table/tables (depending upon the amount of critters being brought), and two chairs.
If it is a large (and/or noisy) gathering, we will require a microphone (preferably headset type), and a speaker or sound system.

Steve Irwin was a very big influence on my life. Before that, I loved watching all of the old wildlife shows and documentaries. Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, with its host, Marlin Perkins, was a particular favorite. Others that have been/are a big influence on me include: Jeff Corwin, Sir David Attenborough, Jack Hanna, Marty Stouffer, Mark O'Shea, Bryan Fry, Kerry Kriger, Austin Stevens, Grace Olive Wiley, and Brady Barr.
