Slim Man

When you book the Slim Man Band, you get excellent musicians playing well-crafted original songs along with some compelling covers. When we do concerts, we perform about 70% original music--songs from the 12 CDs we've released--and we do about 30% cover songs, everything from Louis Armstrong to Amy Winehouse.

The band is stunningly good. The level of musicianship is amazing. Yes, it is original music, but it's presented in an accessible and intriguing way. It's fun, easy on the ears, and family-friendly! We can do up to 150 minutes of music. We've played festivals, wineries, and concerts all over the USA and Europe, with everyone from Herb Alpert to the Beach Boys to Boz Scaggs and George Benson.

When you book the Slim Man Rat Pack Show, you get a thrilling 17-piece band that plays from all the original charts from Count Basie/Quincy Jones, Nelson Riddle, and Don Costa. This is a big and bold show, and an absolute joy to witness. The impact of this show is impressive! We do a combination of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, and Bobby Darin; up to 120 minutes of swinging big band songs.

When you book the Slim Man Solo Show, you get Slim Man singing standards along with pre-recorded tracks. Not just any pre-recorded tracks, you get the actual backing tracks from his "Young at Heart" CD. These tracks have been mixed and mastered by pros, they sound incredible. Slim Man has performed his solo show for Clive Davis, for Modernism Week in Palm Springs, for private parties at Frank Sinatra's house, and Leonardo di Caprio's house as well. You get up to 160 minutes of songs made popular by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, and more.

Here’s the skinny on Slim Man...

Conceived on the Isle of Capri in Italy, he was born in Baltimore, Maryland.

When he was 5 years old, Slim Man saw a movie with his dad, The Five Pennies. When Slim Boy saw Louis Armstrong play the trumpet and sing, he turned to his dad and said, “That’s what I want to do.”

Slim Man studied trumpet for the next 8 years and taught himself to play piano and guitar and write songs.

He put together a demo tape and got signed as a songwriter to Motown Records. He’s had songs recorded by the Temptations, Angela Bofill, Carl Anderson, and others.

After Motown, Slim Man released his debut CD, End of the Rainbow. The first single “Faith in Us” reached the Top Ten on the national jazz chart. The CD made many Top Ten lists for the year.

That started the ball rolling, and it hasn’t stopped. Slim Man has released 12 CDs; he’s done concerts with everyone from Herb Alpert and George Benson to the Beach Boys and Boz Scaggs.

In 2015, Slim Man put together a stunning show of songs made popular by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Nat King Cole. He’s performed his Rat Pack Tribute Show for Barbara Sinatra, Clive Davis, Bruce Willis, and lots of others.

And we thought we’d close with this…Slim Man sang for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican on Christmas Day, 1999.

When the Slim Man band plays, we usually need a PA (and monitors) and lights and the people to run them. If the concert is not within driving range (300 miles of Palm Springs, CA) we will also need backline equipment, which is basically drums and keyboards. We need a stage that can fit 5 people, possibly six. The five pieces are drums, sax/horn, keyboards, guitar, and Slim Man (bass and vocals). The sixth person is a percussionist, if wanted.

When the Slim Man Rat Pack Show plays, we need a big stage! We also a PA (and monitors) and lights and the people to run them. This is a 17-piece big band, and Slim Man makes 18. We need three risers for the stage, for horn sections and the drummer. We need a PA system that has enough inputs for everybody, usually 24 channels/tracks.

When the Slim Man Solo Show plays, we need a small stage. Slim Man brings his own small PA, but does Not bring lighting. This show can be done at country clubs, weddings, just about anywhere as long as there is power, usually just a regular wall outlet. It's a self-contained setup.
