The “Small Forest” sound is defined by exquisite harmonies with strong rhythmic guitar and bass playing and Djembe drum or shakers.
Small Forest performs as a trio or as a duo: Small Forest Girls.
Jeanne Kuhns, Marybeth Mattson and Patrick Palmer are Door County, Wisconsin musicians and have been part of the Midwest music scene as solo acts or in other bands for over a decade. Small Forest has an established following in Door County and in the Midwest. Mattson and Kuhns vocals and harmonies have often been compared to The Indigo Girls sound. Small Forest was awarded an Honorable Mention for the Door County Magazine Readers Poll for Best singer/songwriter 2017. Jeanne Kuhns won best female musician in the Door County Magazine Readers Poll in 2008. They have performed with or opened for countless nationally touring musicians and continue to be supportive of many Door County Community events.
Known for their poetic lyrics and exquisite harmonies, Marybeth Mattson and Jeanne Kuhns pour out their love of our planet and community building to their audiences. Their voices create a soul vibe that is healing and joyful with guitars and the beat of the djembe. Writing from the points of view of two generations, addressing social issues and the magic of nature as two women who have grown up in very different times, and yet have shared much of their lives together, they are vibrant and energizing.
