Terry Maxwell is a musician who is active in Clarington and the Durham region.
Hailing from Saint John New Brunswick, he began teaching himself guitar at the age of 11 and it has been his constant companion since then.
Terry relocated to Toronto in his early 20’s and dabbled in several local indie bands which is when he developed an interest in songwriting and the recording process. He opened a small recording studio business, Maxmusic Recording Services, with his brother which they operated for many years, meeting many colorful Toronto artists in the process.
During one recording session, a demo singer suggested Terry submit his material to FACTOR to apply for some funding, which he won! Two of his original songs, “Half a Chance” and “She’s Not the Only One” were recorded and produced by Chad Irschick (producer for Rita McNeil and The Rankins) at Inception Sound Studios.
The songs were released to commercial radio under the band name Maxx Bros. and received widespread airplay across Canada in the early 90’s. The excitement of hearing his songs played locally on Mix 99 and CHFI never wore thin. One day Terry was at the dentist and got to tell the hygienist that it was his song they were playing in the waiting room – it's a memory that always makes him smile. Other exciting moments include getting his first royalty cheque from SOCAN – musicians know those cheques won’t keep the lights on (unless you're Drake of course) but it was still rewarding to be paid for his music.
More recently, Terry and his wife began travelling to Nashville to study songwriting. There they took part in several songwriting camps and workshops, Tracey as a lyricist and Terry honing his strength in writing melody. In Nashville they established friendships with other writers, music industry contacts and recording studios. Terry has participated in numerous writer’s rounds and shared the stage with incredibly talented professional writers, all great nights of sharing stories and music.
Terry had several demos recorded in Nashville that are available for recording if any bands or artists are looking for original material to cover.
Today Terry is busy on the pub circuit as well as private events, playing all the classic pop/rock songs from the 60’s to today. His appreciation of The Beatles, Cat Stevens, Elton John, Gerry Rafferty, and other greats of the Singer/Songwriter era is evident when he plays, but he also works hard to keep an ear out for new music to keep his sets fresh and be able to play something that every generation will enjoy.
Be sure to follow him on Facebook and Instagram and come by for a show!
