The Balloon Lady

It helps so much and I'm very grateful. 5- and 6-year-olds are SO much fun- they're old enough to "get" what's going on (that I'm just there for their amusement), and when they feel safe they just jump in and engage with life (where younger kids can be more shy and older kids more self-conscious). They can appreciate magic and enjoy the slightly gross and weird gags, but aren't yet "too old" to laugh at the dumb, goofy, silly stuff, too. It's a very special age- enjoy it while it lasts!

You really threw a cool party. It was the perfect venue for a big birthday, and your daughter and her friends were so much fun, playing along confidently and helping to make a funny show, zapping me with Harry Potter spells and helping me to recover from the witch's magic. Did you see that one boy asked me later to make him a balloon sword with a cat's head on the front? We brainstormed names for this new invention and another boy thought of the perfect answer: a catlass!
