San Diego-based pianist and composer Danny Green has garnered a reputation in the jazz community as an emerging artist whose music sounds simultaneously seasoned and fresh. Green is quickly scaling the ranks of new jazz talent with his brilliant blend of jazz, Brazilian, Latin, and classical elements. He is joined by bassist Justin Grinnell and drummer Julien Cantelm. The Trio has performed sold-out shows at Anthology, the La Jolla Athenaeum Music and Arts Library, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Oceanside Museum of Art, UC San Diego, and several other venues. The Trio can play original music, jazz standards, or whatever is preferred. They can play with additional artists if desired.

The Danny Green Trio is comprised of bassist Justin Grinnell and drummer Julien Cantelm. All About Jazz described Green’s music “as engaging and intriguing as if penned by a veteran icon of jazz.”
The Danny Green Trio features the talents of upright and electric bassist Justin Grinnell and drummer Julien Cantelm. Since its formation in 2010, the trio has performed at notable venues, series, and festivals across the county, including the WhyNot Jazz Room (NYC), Anthology (San Diego), The Blue Whale (LA), Vibrato Jazz Grill (LA), Red Poppy Art House (San Francisco), The Loft @ UCSD, Steamer’s Jazz Club (Fullerton), KSDS Jazz (link hidden) Jazz Live, the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library, CSU Summer Arts Monterey, the Integrity Jazz festival in North Dakota, TEDxUCSD, and the KSDS Jazz (link hidden) Ocean Beach Jazz Festival. The trio was chosen to be a resident artist in the San Diego Museum of Art’s Summer Residency Project.
The trio formed the core band on Green’s highly acclaimed 2012 release, A Thousand Ways Home. Joined by world class jazz artists including Chico Pinheiro, Claudia Villela and Peter Sprague, the album received numerous rave reviews nationwide, rose to #17 on the Jazz Week Charts, and was voted into KSDS Jazz (link hidden) “Top Ten Jazz Releases of 2012.”
In 2014, the Danny Green Trio, comprised of Green, Grinnell, and Cantelm, released the highly-acclaimed album After The Calm on OA2 Records. Featuring ten of Green’s compositions, the album received much praise from the press and nationwide radio play. JazzWax described the album as “A highly impressive album that will knock you out,” and the San Diego Troubadour called it, “Unconditionally recommended to anyone who appreciates good jazz, instrumental music or soundtracks.” After The Calm won “Best Jazz Album” at the 2015 San Diego Music Awards and was nominated for “Album of the Year.”
The trio recorded their latest album at New York City’s famed Sear Sound studio with award-winning producer Matt Pierson. The album consists of eleven original compositions by Green, three of which feature a string quartet joining the trio. Entitled Altered Narratives, the album will be released in March 2016 on OA2 Records.
