The Fabulously Rich is a live tribute to The Tragically Hip. The band formed in 2016 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The idea came about when the news broke that Gord Downie had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. The Fabulously Rich has come together to pay tribute to this monumental Canadian band, while at the same time, helping to raise money for the Downie Wenjack fund, making donations for each show they play. It’s always an incredible party and for such a great cause.

Long before we started The Fabulously Rich, in a twist of fate, our frontman, Dennis Ellsworth, forged a connection with Gord Downie that led to an extraordinary collaboration—a musical rendition of Gord's poem, "Coke Machine Glow," which found its place on Dennis's "Hazy Sunshine" album. The recording took place at none other than The Tragically Hip's Bathhouse Studio in Bath, ON.
A few of us had been working on an original project and when Gord's illness hit the headlines, we knew we had to take action. We decided to host a fundraiser in December 2016 in our hometown, Charlottetown. This was supposed to just be just a one-off night, a chance for us to play some songs we love, and support a friend.
We didn't realize it at the moment but we had created something special. People started asking us when we were going to do it again. Venue's started calling. The community was not ready to let the music fade away. Since then, we’ve been extremely fortunate to perform in front of hundreds of audiences big and small, earning the respect of thousands of fans and have cultivated an incredible following of our own.
Together, let's keep the music alive, celebrating the magic that made The Tragically Hip an iconic force in Canadian music history.
