Awesome
Response from The Proper Way:
It was so great to meet you all! Thanks so much for having us!
I would highly recommend the Proper Way for any private event. These guys freaking rock. They played at our wedding in McCall, ID for a super reasonable rate and were super flexible, learned new songs for us, let us use their speakers for the ceremony and were the life of the party for the reception. All three of them are beyond talented and can rock all the classic wedding hits and their originals are a showcase of their talent. I highly recommend everyone just listen to their originals on Spotify alone, but if you want to really have a party, hire these guys. Their folky twist on all the hits was a perfect match for our boho wedding. Then at the end of the night they DJed a playlist that really got everyone dancing. They also MCed the entire event - super personable, funny and talented. Hire these guys, you certainly won't regret it.
Response from The Proper Way:
Thanks so much for having us, Rachael! That was an incredibly beautiful wedding! Congratulations and best wishes!
Scott and Shane are amazing! We had about 300 people roll through Squatters' back patio for a two-hour happy hour. Super easy to work with leading up to our event and very knowledgable about what is expected for these types of events. The song selection and the volume were just right. They played songs everybody knew (had people singing along) and really took the event UP a notch. All around great guys. Book em!
Very professional and the music was amazing! We hired them to play for a University of Utah Hospital function and they were a huge hit! Everyone kept asking how we found this great band! The had such an extensive play list and kept the energy up and songs coming for 2+ hours! Had the crowd thumbing along and the little kids up dancing - they were just fantastic! Was so impressed by them soliciting requests from the audience and playing them without missing a beat - would definitely recommend The Proper Way to anyone looking for the best live acoustic/Americana music that will keep you entertained for hours! I can't wait to find another reason to hire their services!!

First: We understand who we are working for and that we are but one part of what is often a much larger endeavor. Whether that is playing music for a destination corporate event on its final night or a small retirement party in a suburban back yard, we understand that we have been hired to do something. It doesn't matter if we've been hired to play whatever music we want in your driveway for three hours or board three separate shuttle buses to entertain VIP guests as they arrive at a resort at a coordinated time—we understand that we have a job to do.
Second: We are three lead singers. We are three multi-instrumentalists. We are three songwriters. We like to harmonize with one another. One of us is a professional emcee (for Xterra, among others) who is extremely skilled at running a show and working a room. We play acoustic instruments—banjo, guitar, ukulele, dulcimer, mandolin, harmonica, piano, etc. We play many songs with combinations of instruments that may be surprising. We re-imagine iconic songs in unusual ways. We re-imagine obscure songs in unusual ways. We do not take ourselves too seriously. We know how to read a room. We look like we are having a good time because we are.
Third: We can make a remarkable amount of sound for three people, if that is what is required. We can also be very quiet, if that is. We have no stage volume. Other than what is coming out of the PA speakers, almost no sound comes from our stage. This means that regardless of what we are playing, our volume can be appropriate for the event.
Fourth: We can set up in a very small space.
Fifth: We have professional equipment. Also, we are an LLC and can accept payment via credit card, invoice, Venmo, PayPal, or just about any other method.
The Proper Way began when multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriters Shane Osguthorpe and Scott Rogers met while playing a local festival. When a performer failed to appear, the two—who had never played together—were asked to fill in the slot. The musical connection was immediate, and they began performing occasionally with one another.
They established themselves as The Proper Way in 2016, when a promoter invited them to come for a series of shows in Lake Tahoe.
After touring nonstop for two years, the band joined forces with friend and fellow singer-songwriter, Carrie Myers, to release Ain't No Good Thing Ever Dies, a collection of songs by Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, in 2018. The musical connection with Myers was so obvious, and they had so much fun performing and recording as a trio, that Myers joined the band shortly afterwards.
Their most recent release is All Is Not Lost, a collection of songs by the Scottish indie band Frightened Rabbit.
If we are running our own sound, we require one power outlet.
If we are not running our own sound, please request a stage plot.

If you are wondering what we might sound like, the closest band that we can think of to our particular sound is The Lone Bellow. They are three multi-instrumentalist lead singers. There is a video here on GigSalad of us playing their song "You Never Need Nobody" on a beach in Cabo San Lucas.
If you want to know about our particular musical influences, though, it is important to understand that we are three very different musicians.
Shane (piano, guitar, vocals) is heavily influenced by classic country, The Grateful Dead, Elton John, Billy Joel, and Tom Waits.
Scott (guitar, mandolin, banjo, vocals) is heavily influences by the 70s singer-songwriter movement—James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Dan Fogelberg, etc. And Frank Zappa.
Carrie (ukulele, dulcimer) is heavily influenced by a mix of 90s pop music and indie rock.

Lonnie S. said “Reid is an artist. The crowd loves him.”
