Rosa Harris and the Soul Entertainers Band provided 3 1/2 hours of live music for our assisted living's anniversary party (an annual picnic event we throw for residents, staff, family & community). I am in charge of booking entertainment for our events. I met Rosa Harris at the Chicago House of Blues, where she performs as the narrator and band leader for the Blues Schoolhouse program, a great program that educates children on the history of the blues and its influence on modern music. I brought a group of seniors to this schoolhouse program and Rosa approached me after the show and offered up her services for Victory Centre. When it came time to book for our Anniversary Party, I knew who I would go to, and I was not disappointed. I had several people approach me after the event to rave on how great the band was. One person, who has attended the anniversary party for a few years in a row, commented "it gets better every year". People really enjoyed the music and we will definitely have them back!
I heard this group yesterday at a community event in Melrose Park. They are superb. Their sound is nuanced and rich, both subtle and powerful. The clips you hear on their website were recorded indoors in a more intimate venue with four musicians. For the outdoor event yesterday Carlton Moore added a saxophonist and a vocalist. People in the audience turned to each other, saying, this is so good. As for me, I was smitten already before they started--when the sax player was warming up. These are polished and highly energetic musicians who should be famous. I, for one, will travel some distance to hear them again and recommend them to anyone planning an event, both big and small.
