Tim Sims

For this native St. Louis, Missouri indie artist, his passionate faith in Christ and affection for the genre known as Contemporary Christian Music were both born out of a love affair that began as a child. It was at the early age of nine years old that Tim Sims first received Jesus as his Savior. It was also during that same year that he received the second love of his life, when he received a guitar as a gift from his grandmother. “For a couple of years in a row, I told my parents that I wanted a guitar for my birthday, but they didn’t take my seriously. However, it was my grandma who said, ‘If the boy wants to play guitar, then let’s get him a guitar!’ And just like that, the next week, she gave me a guitar for my ninth birthday.” Thereby, he received the gift of music!

That gift help to change the course of that inner city kid. Tim says he spent hours upon hours, listening to music, as he learned to play by mimicking what he heard on the radio. He recalls, “I remember riding in the car with my dad listening to artist like Andrea Crouch and the Disciples, Walter Hawkins and Danniebell Hall; followed by artist like Amy Grant or Twila Paris or groups such as DeGarmo & Key, the Imperials, Seawind or the Sweet Comfort Band. Gospel radio was very different from the way it is today. The difference is they were all played in the same rotation or playlist! Unfortunately, today’s gospel and Christian music is much more segregated than it was then.”
It was that rich childhood experience that helped to shape the kind of artist that Tim Sims is today! His style is one that crosses cultural boundaries with a broad range of eclectic influences that range from gospel choir and soulful R&B, to Christian rock, to the sounds of jazz and Caribbean beats. That diversity of style translates into a broad range of appeal among fans.

As a singer/song writer, former pastor and teacher, Tim Sims is passionate about encouraging and empowering others through original music, like the track, “More Than a Conqueror” from his debute cd entitled, "In the Spirit of True Worship with Tim Sims." The album, which also features the romantic ballad, "The Lord Has Made You One," is is a proverbial cornucopia of up tempo tunes, mid-tempo inspirational songs, uplifting worship and praise, and melodic ballads of Christian romance. All of which helps to recapture the essence of, and to reacquaint listeners, with the brand that affectionately become known as Contemporary Christian Music.

As a minister of the gospel, Dr. Timothy Sims is also an insightful and inspirational Bible teacher. He is a graduate of the International College of Bible Theology-St. Louis, where he received a Doctorate in Theology and is an instructor for the college. He received his ordination as a licensed minister through American Mission Teams, an international ministry based in Norris City, Illinois.
Dr. Sims is also a writer and the author of In Defense of the Word of Faith; an Apologetic Response to Encourage Charismatic Believers, published in 2008 by Author House Publishing, Inc. Through the ministry of God’s word and music, Timothy has been granted the opportunity to observe the impact of charismatic ministry and teaching upon the traditional Evangelical Christian community and Charismatic/Word of Faith community alike. It is this dual exposure as a lay leader in ministry that has provided the inspiration and education for his book.

Tim is married and the proud father of three wonderful children and is committed to the ministry of marriage. He is an affiliate of SESAC music association.
