Considered a Vocal Prodigy, Tonette Jeanine began singing in church at the tender age of 5. While attending J. O. Ford Elementary School in Richmond, CA, Tonette sang her first public "solo" performance at the school's Christmas Concert at age 7. At age 13, Tonette auditioned for Tommie Sue Anderson, a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Although Tonette was young, Ms. Anderson felt that she had an "exceptional" gift and agreed to take her on as a voice student.
Upon entering high school, Tonette auditioned and was offered an invitation to be a part of the A Capella Choir, which was the "premier" vocal group at Richmond High School in Richmond, CA. Upon acceptance of the invitation, Tonette soon learned that no 'underclassmen" in the history of that choir, had ever been invited to audition for this ensemble. Notably, the A Capella Choir was traditionally reserved for Sophomores, Junior and Seniors. While attending Richmond High School, Tonette started her first R&B band called Breezin and she also represented Richmond High School in district functions and yearly commencement ceremonies. Upon graduation from Richmond High, T.J. received the Bank of America Award in Music - Outstanding Vocalist. She then went on to attend the University of the Pacific, Conservatory of Music, in Stockton, CA, where she studied Opera and Vocal Performance.
