Urban Movement Arts

UMA is a great addition to any private function, corporate event, or educational workshop. All of our dancers are seasoned performance professionals as well as educators. As hip hop dancers we are experts at improvising and showing off. We can adapt our demos, performances, or teaching workshops to any environment. When it comes to teaching adults, UMA wants you to be yourself, to find your own groove, your own flavor. Are you doubting yourself, scared to dance, wondering: Am I too old? To big? Too small? Too inflexible? Too busy? Dancing with UMA will help defeat those voices of doubt!

Urban Movement Arts was founded by Vince Johnson in 2017. Vince Johnson is a Philadelphia based artist and educator. Hip hop dance and martial arts have been his primary disciplines of practice since childhood. As an adulthood, he has also studied physical theater, clown and percussion. He is alumnus of Rennie Harris Puremovement and has worked in various art sectors. For over a decade, he created events for young audiences while also producing work designed for specific sub-cultures, academia, and contemporary art platforms. He is founder and director of Movemakers Philly and Urban Movement Arts, teaching kids and adults, respectively, hip hop dance styles, North American and Hispanic dance folklore, movement culture, tai chi and yoga. Both organizations function as community resource centers for a broad range performing artists and dance practitioners. Johnson’s performance group, Philly Kerplop, is a professional dance and music ensemble that performs original material for family audiences.

UMA can provide a sound system as needed, for an additional fee.
UMA can bring together a performance or educational team of varying sizes, ranging from two to twelve.
