Sara Arango is a dedicated cello student and educator with a passion for music that transcends borders. Originally from Colombia, Sara began her musical journey at the Universidad de Antioquia, studying under the guidance of esteemed professors such as Pavel Rusev and Karen Londoño.
In 2021, Sara pursued a diploma in Cultural Management at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana while continuing her undergraduate studies. Her commitment to the broader aspects of the arts became evident early on.
In 2022, Sara took a bold step, moving to New York to refine her cello skills with the renowned cellist Marcy Rosen at Queens College. Alongside her studies, she showcased her versatility as a cello teacher, orchestra leader, and chamber music enthusiast.
Sara started playing the cello at the age of 9 and has since built an impressive resume, contributing to the state orchestra in Antioquia and teaching strings at the New York Musician's Center.
Her collaborations extend beyond classical realms, having worked with diverse musicians, including Colombian singer Pipe Pelaez and the rock group Volcan. Sara's commitment to showcasing Colombian composers on the cello reflects her love for the rich musical heritage of her home country.
Having played under the guidance of Alberto Correa, founder of the Medellin Philharmonic, Sara has graced numerous occasions with her musical prowess. Her principles of honesty and dedication drive her mission to make Colombian music more accessible and appreciated globally.
Sara Arango is not just a cellist; she is a cultural ambassador, weaving her passion for music and dedication to her craft into a harmonious narrative that resonates with audiences worldwide.
For my performances, there are a few important technical requirements to ensure the best possible experience:
Alimentation and Transportation Fee: Please note that these fees are separate from the performance fee.
Microphone and Sound Equipment: A microphone and appropriate sound system are essential if the performance is outdoors. This ensures the cello's sound is projected clearly to the audience. However, in smaller, enclosed spaces like a church, this is not required, as the natural acoustics are usually sufficient.
Staging and Lighting: While I don't have specific lighting requirements, adequate lighting is necessary to ensure both the audience and I can fully engage with the performance.
By meeting these technical needs, we can ensure a smooth and high-quality performance tailored to the venue and audience.
My musical journey has been deeply influenced by the diverse experiences I've had performing across various settings. One of the most impactful influences has been working with Pipe Pelaez, one of Colombia's most popular singers. Collaborating with him on multiple projects exposed me to the richness of Colombian music and the importance of connecting with audiences on a personal level.
Additionally, performing at various events such as awards ceremonies, religious gatherings, birthdays, and even intimate moments like proposals has shaped my approach to music. These experiences have taught me how to tailor my performances to the unique atmosphere of each event, making every moment special and memorable. The diversity of these events has broadened my musical perspective and deepened my commitment to creating meaningful connections through my music.
Performance Space: A clean, stable stage area with enough space to comfortably set up and play the cello. Adequate seating or standing room for the audience, depending on the venue size and event type
Sound Equipment: Outdoor Performances: A high-quality microphone and sound system to amplify the cello's sound. Indoor Performances: No sound amplification is typically required in smaller, acoustically favorable spaces like churches.
Seating: A sturdy, armless chair for the cello performance.
Lighting: Adequate stage lighting that allows for clear visibility of the sheet music and the cello.
Temperature Control: Indoor venues should maintain a comfortable temperature, as extreme cold or heat can affect the cello’s performance and tuning.
