Hailing from Malaysia, Anne Yap I-Shyuen is continuing her musical journey from her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy (WSU May 2023) with Dr. Julie Bees, to now as a second-year graduate student at WSU, pursuing a Master of Music in Piano Performance under Dr. Warren Kim.
Throughout this period, Anne garnered notable accolades, including the Outstanding Graduating Senior Award 2023, Thurlow Lieurance Outstanding 2023 Senior, and 2022 Junior Award. Her achievements extend to the numerous prizes and awards in competitions where she was recently selected as a winner of the WSU Concerto-Aria Competition 2024 in which she performed the first movement of Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto with the WSU Symphony Orchestra. At the same competition, Anne was also one of the winners in 2022 and performed the first movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C major, K.467. Anne was awarded the 2nd Prize at the Konrad Wolff-Ilse Bing Chamber Music Competition 2023, 1st Prize in 2022 and the 3rd Prize in 2021. Other achievements include 3rd Prize at the Malaysia Youth Music Festival 2015 in both Piano Solo and Piano Duet categories. Enrichment of her musical studies includes distinguished artists Vadym Kholodenko, Peter Miyamoto, Dr. Elvia Puccinelli, Gabriel Kwok, Dr. Nicholas Ong, and Yong Sue Yi.
Many aspects of Anne’s musical endeavours include giving back to the Wichita community. Anne is an active solo and collaborative pianist who provides musical services to not only her peers, but also senior citizens at Larksfield Place Retirement Home and churches in Wichita. Throughout her college career, Anne performed as a collaborative pianist in many student recitals and ensembles. In April of 2024, she was invited to perform at a concert presented by the Wichita Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
I have an electric keyboard that I can bring to venues when needed. However, I do not have any PA systems or cables that connect the system.
