I am a classically trained flutist that can comfortably play any traditional western classical music. Additionally, I specialize in contemporary classical, avant-garde, performance art and free music.
Carlos played beautiful flute solos for a graveside celebration for our parents. He was wonderful to work with, providing excellent suggestions and playing previews for me over the phone as we planned to program long distance. His demeanor at the event was perfect and was the icing on the cake.

I am a versatile performer. For example, I can be in a suit or tuxedo playing traditional classical music in an elegant, more conservative venue and am also able to dress edgy and play more adventurous music in warehouse spaces or gallery spaces.
Carlos Aguilar is a soloist, interdisciplinary artist and actively premieres and performs new music. He is especially interested in experimental literature for the flute, integrating classical and contemporary traditions of performance and conceptual art.
As a teen, he swept San Diego's classical music scene by winning first prize in all open competitions. Carlos has been featured as a soloist with the La Jolla Symphony, Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Colburn Chamber Orchestra. Over the last few summers, he has attended the Banff Arts Centre, Marrowstone Festival, SoundSCAPE Festival and was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the USA. He is currently principal flute of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra with whom he has toured South America and Europe.
His mentors include Paula Robison and Dr. Elena Yarritu. He is based in Boston and New York City.
I am very flexible as to what is need for the performance. When I do an all solo performance, I usually have a lighting/projection set up in a dark space with a full sound system (mixer, wireless headset mic, PA). Empty rooms are the best because they are clean canvases that I can transform with light and sound.
As far as classical performance is concerned, an in-tune piano (when needed), decent lighting, a good acoustic and an audience is all that is needed.
