Cate Cox is a bicoastal performer, specializing in jazz vocals ranging from the 1920s to 1950s, as well as 1960s rock n’ roll. Her voice has been compared to the soothing tones of a Norah Jones voice and to the silky sound of a reed instrument. Her performance has been called "sultry, sincere, smoldering, and honest." After several New York performances, Cate moved to New York permanently in the summer of 2010. She was accepted into the acclaimed Perry-Mansfield Intensive and studied with “reigning Queen of Cabaret,” Andrea Marcovicci, musical theater legend, Karen Mason, and musical directors, Shelly Marklam, David Ganes, Barry Kleinbort. Major performances include The 150th Compari Bitter Party Bash to celebrate the liquor’s 150th birthday and the Sun Valley cabaret.
Cate currently takes advanced acting technique training from Alice Spivak and the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, as well as studying at the famous HB Studios. She trained classically in voice for six years before taking the stage professionally. She studied at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in London, England and The American Conservatory Theater (ACT) in performance technique. Her jazz studies include vocalist Vicki Burns and Sharman Duran. She received her BA in Writing and Poetics from Naropa University and did her graduate studies in psychology at The California Institute of Integral Studies.
