Welcome to my place of music! I've been playing the piano all my life. I work hard to create sounds that go beyond rhythm and pitch; The power of music is in that which one cannot distinguish readily. This is the challenge. This is the art. This is why I do it. This is why I must play. I invite you to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Available for intimate concert piano recitals, weddings, fundraising, theatre, benefits, celebrations, etc.
I was privileged to attend Conley Johnson's debut performance at the Skokie Theater Sunday night as part of the Chicago Classical Music Events meetup. Rarely have I had the opportunity to hear such prodigious talent in such intimate and beautiful surroundings. Mr. Johnson kept us mesmerized with his passion and technique. A wild and extended standing ovation greeted the end of his performance, and showman that he is, he left us wanting more.
We saw Conley Johnson 6/14/15 in the lovely remodeled Skokie Theatre. I was emotionally moved by his Liszt offerings. I was a classically trained musician at the same school Conley went to (Chicago Conservatory of Music) but never aspired to performance. That being said, I know a genius musician when I see/hear one.
Conley is a genius who plays with such heart and ease it made me almost (almost!) pull out my old Beethoven's sonatas to play them again!
Response from Conley Johnson:
You are too kind, Christine. It was good to finally meet you at the concert! All best.
Saw you at the Skokie Theater June 14, 2015. You are a piano master; you play with a command of your instrument and concert material. You seem to be detached from the stage when you play as if, you left the room to a secret place where great music exists to be played only by you. I know you started at a very young age but you remained focused through your childhood on the most precious gift God could give to you. The gift of reading, interpreting, keyboard technique and then performing the classics with great passion and grace. You are a true artist, Mr. Conley, one that I would listen to over and over again. Is there more for you to learn? It can't be much more for you are already a Master of your art.
Seeing Conley perform in an intimate setting of 100, was more than a recital-it was truly an awesome experience. I am the Co-organizer of a large classical music social group & received so much positive feedback about Conley Johnson. His CD "Conley Johnson Plays" is simply spectacular & a must for every home.
In October of 2014, Conley performed live on Impromptu, a weekly series broadcast on WFMT radio. Portions of his performance were included in a 2-CD thank-you gift entitled "WFMT On-Air Best of Live 2014" for their fall 2014 pledge drive. We are looking forward to an upcoming theatre performance showcasing the music of this CD!
Price Range: $250 and up
Known for his sensitivity and authenticity at the piano, Conley Johnson brings a refined touch to the instrument. Trained from the age of three, Mr. Johnson is comfortable with the baroque, classical, romantic and modern styles. Add a touch of elegance to your cocktail/dinner party, banquet, wedding, reception, or gallery exhibition.
Conley Johnson Jr. is a North American pianist born April 5,1982 in Chicago Illinois. He began formal studies at the age of 3 at the American Conservatory in Chicago. At the age of 13, under the tutelage of Edward Mondello, he came to the attention of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1995 when he undertook to play the tumultuously difficult Piano Concerto No. 1 of Pyotr Tchaikovsky. He made history at Interlochen Center for the Arts, being the youngest person ever to win the resident international concerto competition with the Tchaikovsky concerto. The next fall, he won an opportunity to play in a high-school educational concert with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Since then, he has played in major engagements with the Grant Park Orchestra, the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and more. He has won many awards, including first place in the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation Scholarship Competition ( Chicago, Illinois U.S.A.), Level II from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (Miami, Florida U.S.A.), and second prize at the NANM Competition (Atlanta, Georgia U.S.A.). It is worth mention that he has participated in the Aspen Music Festival (Aspen, Colorado U.S.A.), and that he is known as a Kapnick Scholar.
After his year attending the Peabody Institute of Music at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Maryland) in 2000, Conley took a sabbatical from music, attending Oberlin College (Oberlin, Ohio) majoring in neuroscience and biology. He holds a B.A. from Oberlin.
Since his graduation from Oberlin in 2004, he has returned to music with fresh new insights into his musical goal: to follow in the romantic style of Rachmaninoff, Paderewski, and Friedman, and to achieve a personal artistry on par with theirs. He now receives coaching from Michael Ruiz of the Chicago Conservatory of Music.
In October of 2014, Conley performed live on Impromptu, a weekly series broadcast on WFMT radio. Portions of his performance were included in a 2-CD thank-you gift entitled "WFMT On-Air Best of Live 2014" for their fall 2014 pledge drive.
