Latvian Violist

A dual citizen of Latvia and the United States, Ms. Kerno has performed in a variety of concert venues throughout Europe and America. Most recently, she has concluded her two year residency with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, . Last season, she continued playing with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, the Northbrook Symphony, and the Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago. As a citizen of Latvia, she also had the opportunity to audition and become a member of the Baltic Sea Philharmonic, which tours around Central and Eastern Europe.

Having played the viola since childhood, she always had a passion for the viola and for music. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at American University in 2013 and continued her studies that same year in Chicago with Dr. Roland Vamos at Northwestern University, where she obtained her Master of Music degree. Since graduating, she has been an active free-lancer in the greater Chicago area, which includes being a private instructor at Glenbrook South High School and a violin and viola Teaching Artist for the newly formed Lake County nucleo of Sistema Ravinia.

Throughout her career so far, she has had the opportunity to work with many of the major classical musicians in the world. Among them are Ricardo Muti, Christoph Eschenbach, Yo-Yo Ma, Kristjan Jarvi, and Ken-David Masur, amongst many others. In the summer of 2017, she had the opportunity to perform a solo piece at the North American Latvian Song Festival in Baltimore, MD - a festival that brings together hundreds of Latvian musicians, dancers, and enthusiasts together once every two years.
