Mermaid Laura, the Sykesville Siren

My act depends on the specific type of event and audience. I always perform in fabric tails, but have many options to choose from! I always have a mer-wrangler with me. (This is someone who assists me for both dry and wet events, and ensures that I am always safe, especially in the water. My mer-wrangler is well trained in water safety and is always a veteran and/or first responder.) Here is a general idea of what to expect for the more common event scenarios:

Dry events for kids- These events generally last about an hour. I can sit on the floor or in a chair and lead the group in various activities. I can read a story, sing songs as a group, facilitate games, and pose for photos.

Dry events for adults- These events generally last about an hour to an hour and a half. I can sit on the floor or in a chair and lead the group in various activities. I can pose for photos and facilitate games.

Wet events for kids- These events usually last 45 minutes- one hour. I am always ready for a pool or beach party! I can play games in the water, swim and perform tricks, pose for photos, and sing songs as a group.

Wet events for adults- These events usually last one hour- an hour and a half. I can facilitate games in the water, swim and perform tricks, and pose for photos.

Shello! I am a mermaid performer in central Maryland, but my mermaid journey started while I was a marine biology student at the University of Hawai'i. I have extensive mermaid experience on land, in pools, and even in open ocean. I love sharing my passion of the ocean and the natural world with others. For my day job, I teach scuba diving and manage my family's dive shop. I have my own insurance and too many professional certifications to list here. (If you're interested, I am more than happy to send you my resume.) I am also a volunteer public safety diver with my local fire department. I am also the current Miss Maryland Mermaid, 2023!
