I found Randal on GigSalad to perform at our small, intimate wedding of seven people (including my husband and me). From the very start, Randal was responsive, flexible and a joy to work with. He traveled an hour and a half to perform for us, was on time, and all set up. He minimized the stress. On a day of getting asked a ton of questions from everyone around you, I was relaxed, because I knew I was in great hands with Randal. There were so many special moments, including an impromptu first dance after my husband and I left the chapel on the ranch where we were married. I can provide up front music that is meant to be more like a show or performance as well as background music that reflects the mood of the room, Instrumental or with vocals. My guitar playing can be very melodic like solo jazz guitar or I can strum and sing in a more folk like performance. My forte is playing more classic material (roots: blues, jazz, bluegrass, Latin), however from teaching young students as a private music teacher, I can and often do perform current pop songs in a solo guitar/vocalist or ukulele/vocalist style. I can rearrange songs from one genre to another. Example: Miley Cyrus as folk, Prince as Bluegrass, Willie Nelson as Latin music, etc. I customize nearly every gig I play per the clients needs and requests. I can provide additional musicians for duos, trios, and larger groups. Per the customers request and for an additional fee, I can provide a professional recording of the event for documentation.
I have been playing guitar for almost thirty years, since I was twelve years old. I am a multi instrumentalist playing guitar, ukulele, mandolin, and banjo. I teach music privately which keeps me current in terms of popular music. I have a passion for jazz, Latin, and bluegrass music, but can perform in most any style. I have been performing professionally since my teen years and continue to improve, adjust, grow, and advance within the styles in which I play in.
I only require one standard outlet for power. I bring a small, single speaker, all performance equipment such as stands, microphones, cables, power strip etc. I provide. I even bring my own seating.
My inspiration comes from the great musicians that play(ed) their instruments to the point of mastery. Blues greats Son House, Leadbelly, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, to jazz musicians, too many to name, but Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Joe Pass, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Jobim, John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, John Scofield, and so many more. I love classical music from Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, into more contemporary sounds like Schoenberg as well. I love funk, classic country and bluegrass too many to name as well. If it is classic, I likely love it. That goes with just about any genre.
