Sumitra

An evening of heartfelt, soulful music, blurring the lines between jazz and pop and drawing the audience into a very different kind of expresssion. I hope to take every listener to another place and invite you to join me on this journey.

Sumitra and Alex Machacek have been both musical and life partners for over two decades.

Sumitra
Born in New York, singer/songwriter Sumitra spent her upbringing traveling nomadically between Europe, Asia and North America. For over 20 years, Vienna was her home base until she relocated to Los Angeles in 2004, with her husband, Austrian guitarist, Alex Machacek.
Sumitra has worked as a recording/performing artist in Europe, the U.S. and India (Kruder & Dorfmeister, Count Basic, Gloria Gaynor, Terry Bozzio, Alex Machacek, Wolfgang Puschnig …) and released 4 albums and one EP as a solo artist.

Alex Machacek
A native Austrian now residing in Los Angeles, Alex Machacek is one of the most
respected and versatile guitarists in the jazz-fusion genre today. He has been critically claimed by such fusion legends as John McLaughlin and the late Allan Holdsworth and Shawn Lane.
Machacek has worked with the ‘who is who’ in the international jazz fusion scene, such as Terry Bozzio, Eddie Jobson, Matt Garrison, Gary Husband, Virgil Donati and many others, performing all over the world.

Sumitra and Alex look forward to performing their own arrangements of jazz standards and some original pieces for you.
